BEIJING, March 20 (Xinhua) -- The threat of inflation to China's economy is less worrisome compared with asset bubble, economists said Saturday at the China Development Forum 2010.China's economy is facing a new round of growth in the coming two years, but the risks of inflation and asset bubble remain, said Fan Gang, secretary general of the China Reform Foundation.Compared with inflation, tackling asset bubble is of greater importance because asset bubble, as one of the causes for this round of global financial crisis, is more dangerous, Fan said. He expected the country's economy to grow 8 to 9 percent this year in a "normal growth."Growth in China's property prices is accelerating and approaching an alarming level, said Nomura Holdings Inc. chairman Junichi Ujiie.Despite government measures to curb property prices, China's property market grew at its fastest pace in 20 months in February, with housing prices in 70 major cities rising 10.7 percent from a year ago.

BEIJING, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- China announced Tuesday that it awarded the eight peace-keeping police killed in the Haiti earthquake the title of "martyr" as their bodies were brought home Tuesday morning Beijing time. The awards were jointly approved by the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) and the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the MPS said in a statement on its website."The peace-keeping police who tragically died were always devoted to their missions; they respectfully completed many urgent, difficult, dangerous and arduous tasks; they have made a great contribution to safeguarding world peace," read the statement. It also said that compensation would be handed out, which was standard government procedure in such instances.Soldiers carry the coffins of the eight peacekeeping police officers who died in the Haiti earthquake at the airport in Beijing, China, Jan. 19, 2010Bodies of the seven policemen and a policewoman arrived in Beijing on a chartered China Southern Airlines flight.Hundreds of thousands of Chinese, including President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao, have expressed their grief and condolences for the dead.More than 500,000 people are feared dead after the 7.3-magnitude earthquake hit the Caribbean island country Jan.12 local time.

BEIJING, March 11 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese political advisor said here Thursday that it was "groundless" that some foreign media reports alleged China had hidden part of defense budget.Jia Yong, a member of the National Committee of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), made the remarks when commenting on some foreign media reports that part of China's military expenditure might have gone hidden as the country's defense budget growth slowed to 7.5 percent this year.Speaking on the sidelines of the ongoing annual session of the CPPCC National Committee, the top political advisory body, Jia called such reports were merely meant to draw more attention.China publishes the national defense white paper every two years, which is more detailed in military expenditure than many other countries, Jia said. The per capita defense budget of China is the lowest among the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, and the country has dispatched the most servicemen and police officers for peacekeeping missions, Jia said. The Chinese government revealed last week that the country plans to increase its defense budget by 7.5 percent in 2010, compared with last year's 14.9 percent, to 532.115 billion yuan (about 78 billion U.S. dollars).

BEIJING, March 10 (Xinhua) -- President Hu Jintao and other Chinese leaders joined lawmakers Wednesday in discussions on the work report of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee. In the deliberation with lawmakers from central China's Henan Province,Hu said he totally agrees with the report delivered by Wu Bangguo, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, at the annual session of the NPC, China's supreme legislature. In addition, Hu urged the province, a leading grain grower in China, to make efforts to improve its agricultural production capacities, ensure supplies of farm produce and sharpen its agricultural competitiveness in the world.  Chinese President Hu Jintao (R, front) joins a panel discussion with deputies to the Third Session of the 11th National People's Congress from central China's Henan Province in Beijing, China, March 10, 2010Hu also said emphasis should be put on improving people's livelihood, especially in education, employment, social security, health care and housing. He also stressed promoting the progress of non-profit cultural programs and cultural industry to meet people's demands.Addressing deputies from Shanxi Province, top legislator Wu Bangguo pledged the NPC Standing Committee would be open to the supervision of the deputies and the people.Wu said the top priority of the legislative work this year is to shape a socialist legal system with Chinese characteristics.Wu vowed to speed up legislation efforts for the formation of such a system. In the deliberation with NPC deputies from Hebei Province, Premier Wen Jiabao said he entirely endorses the legislative report, while calling on the province to intensify its efforts in transforming the economic growth pattern and readjusting industrial structures. The province should push ahead the structural readjustment of traditional industries, cultivate new pillar industries and vigorously develop service industries such as finance, insurance and logistics, Wen said.Vice President Xi Jinping discussed the report with lawmakers from the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. He urged to further promote harmony and stability in regions inhabited by ethnic minorities. He Guoqiang, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, joined deputies from Inner Mongolia. In the discussion, He, also chief of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the CPC, called for intensified efforts in combating corruption.Concrete efforts should be made to establish gradually an effective anti-corruption system, He said.Zhou Yongkang, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, joined lawmakers from Sichuan Province.Practice has repeatedly proved the socialist political system with Chinese characteristics is a good system, said Zhou, citing the achievements in reconstruction of quake-devastated Sichuan Province and China's comparatively fast recovery from the global financial crisis.

SHANGHAI, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- The government must mobilize the public to safeguard security, which is the priority of the Shanghai World Expo, the top Shanghai official said Wednesday. The measures to ensure a secure Expo need understanding and support from the public, said Yu Zhengsheng, secretary of the Communist Party of China Shanghai Municipal Committee. "We can minimize the elements of potential dangers only if we trust, rely on and mobilize the grassroot organizations and the public."Yu made the remarks at the ongoing annual session of the municipal advisory body. The measures in safeguarding security and smooth traffic would interrupt the citizens's daily life. The government should seek public opinions and understanding to hold a successful Expo, he said."We should call for citizens to carry as few bags as possible or even no bags when traveling by subway so as to reduce the pressure on security checks," he said. The 2010 World Expo will be held from May 1 to Oct. 31 in Shanghai, expected to attract an record total of 70 million visitors.
