CHULA VISTA (CNS) - Energy infrastructure company LS Power unveiled what it is calling the largest battery energy storage project in the world Wednesday in the East Otay Mesa community, intended to enhance the power grid's reliability and reduce energy costs.The Gateway Energy Storage project -- currently operating at 230 megawatts and scheduled to reach 250 MW by the end of the month -- follows another LS Power battery project in Vista. (KGTV) It is no secret that restaurants throughout San Diego County have been struggling during the COVID-19 pandemic, but one restaurant in Otay Ranch was forced to close before it ever had its grand opening, just as the pandemic was starting. Hurricane Grill and Wings was supposed to open sometime between late January and early February, but when the pandemic started, it delayed everything. The owner Abu Syed is now getting ready to open the restaurant on Monday, September 28th.The restaurant will open at just 25% capacity indoors and patio seating outdoors. Like so many other restaurant owners, Syed says the landlord did give them a break on rent, but will owe it at the end of their lease. The restaurant is staffed with 32 employees, 16 of them are full-time.In August, the California Restaurant Association projected that close to 30% of restaurants in the state could close for good because of the pandemic. CHULA VISTA (KGTV) - Chula Vista police are searching for a possible arsonist after four brush fires were set within minutes of each other Thursday morning.Firefighters responded around 3:30 a.m. to the area south of Lake Crest Drive and east of Wueste Road in Eastlake.While crews were working to put out the fire, they received a second fire call nearly three miles away on Eastlake Parkway.The third brush fire happened a short time after on Telegraph Canyon Road, and then the fourth fire broke out near Vista Oak Place.No one was hurt, and firefighters were able to put out all the fires.Witnesses told fire investigators they saw a silver Lexus leaving the scene of the fourth fire around 4:15 a.m.Anyone with information on the suspected arsonist or the incidents is asked to contact the Metro Arson Strike Team (MAST) at 619-236-6815. 850

CINCINNATI -- A 911 operator who was placed on leave after a teen's death will return to work Wednesday.Police spokeswoman Tiffaney Hardy couldn't say if that operator, Amber Smith, would face any discipline because an investigation is continuing.Smith took the second call Kyle Plush placed to 911 as he suffocated in his van outside Seven Hills School. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A family in Otay Ranch is hoping a group of teens will face consequences for allegedly assaulting their teenage son.The incident was captured on cell phone video and posted to social media by the teen's mother. The family says their teen was waiting for his mom to pick him up at Cotixan Mexican Restaurant on Thursday after school, when a group of teens walked in and started kicking and punching the boy. At one point in the seven-second clip, you can see someone throw a chair on the teen. The boy's father, Margarito Martin, tells 10News he was shocked when he saw the video. He says everything started days before on Instagram, when, he says, his son told someone to stop harassing one of his friends. Martin says one teen then started messaging his son telling him he was going to beat him up. Martin says the incident was reported to Chula Vista Police but he's worried the teens will get away with what they did.
