SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Local San Diego County attractions announced Sunday that they will close as a stay-at-home order takes effect in Southern California.The restrictions for the region begin at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday.SeaWorld announced a temporary closure beginning December 7. The closure will remain until the region’s zoos are allowed to reopen, the amusement park said.“During this time, our veterinarians and animal care experts will continue to provide the animals that call SeaWorld San Diego home the same high level of care," SeaWorld said in a statement. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Memorial Day Weekend DUI arrests are down in San Diego County compared to last year, according to California Highway Patrol. In San Diego County, 42 people were arrested between 6 p.m. Friday and 6 a.m. Sunday. By this time on Memorial Day Weekend in 2018, 57 people were arrested. One person died this weekend in San Diego County due to a DUI crash, tying it with last year. Statewide, 741 people have so far been arrested for driving under the influence. By this time last year, 674 people were arrested for DUI. So far this weekend, DUI-related crashes have claimed 18 lives throughout the state compared with 14 by this time last year. 668

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- In anticipation of its members returning, 24 Hour Fitness locations around San Diego County have made several changes that will allow them to follow county health guidelines and keep their doors open.Under the state’s tiered system for businesses, 24 Hour Fitness is among those able to resume indoor operations, but with specific modifications in place.The fitness centers are now requiring reservations for 90-minute workout sessions, and each location can only operate at 10 percent capacity, so they have to keep a close eye on how many people are inside of the building.While reservations will not be required for clubs in San Diego County, each club in the county will be capped at a 10 percent capacity.Jeremy Franke, Regional Vice President of 24 Hour Fitness, said, “We have a check-in system where we can check at any time and know how many people are in the club. And when we reach capacity, our system flags and says we’re at capacity. And we’ll have the next person wait. Like retail stores, we let one in and one out if we get full.”Once inside the gym, social distancing is a must. There are signs and markers that remind members about staying six feet apart.24 Hour Fitness has also stepped up with cleaning and disinfecting, shutting everything down for 30-minute periods throughout the day to do so.Some things will remain closed, such as spas, saunas, pools, and basketball courts. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — In a move to help shed the mounting costs of a real estate deal gone wrong, the City of San Diego says it is stopping lease payments on the sharply criticized 101 Ash Street building.The city sent a letter to Cisterra Development, which brokered the real estate deal, that it will be "suspending further lease payments for the 1010 Ash Street building," starting with the Sept. 1 payment. The letter adds that the city will not be making any lease payments "until these issues are fairly resolved.""The City has lost use of the building due, in part, to direct physical loss and damage to the premises, including widespread and negligent disturbance of asbestos," the city's letter reads.RELATED: Options and possible consultation costs for vacant buildingThe property at 101 Ash St. has sat vacant in downtown San Diego for most of the last four years. As it remains empty and unused, taxpayers are paying a daily bill to the tune of ,000.The city intended to move 1,100 city employees into the building, but officials soon discovered problem after problem to the site's 19 floors. In December 2019, the city finally moved workers in, only to vacate them a month later when the county detected traces of asbestos.The building was purchased by the city in 2016 in an approved lease-to-own agreement valued at million.RELATED: City leaders vote for updates on 101 Ash Street as costs mountLast month, a letter obtained by ABC 10News showed the city was considering proposals for additional services including bare requirements to reoccupy the building, fire/life/safety recommendations, and potentially demolishing and replacing the existing building. It appears you have documents that are not final and should not be treated as such."In August, City Council leaders voted 5-4 to request monthly updates on the status of the building and costs for several next steps options by Mayor Kevin Faulconer's office, including putting millions of dollars more into the building for the needed repairs, buying out the lease, pursuing a new landlord, trying to renegotiate its lease, or walking away entirely.
