Actress Tamera Mowry-Housley was active on social media on Thursday looking for help locating her and husband's niece Alaina Housley who was presumably at the California bar where a gunman killed 12 before taking his own life. Late Thursday morning, the couple confirmed to NBC News that Alaina Housley was among the 12 killed. "Our hearts are broken. We just learned that our niece Alaina was one of the victims of last night’s shooting at Borderline bar in Thousand Oaks," the couple said in a joint statement to NBC. "Alaina was an incredible young woman with so much life ahead of her and we are devastated that her life was cut short in this manner. We thank everyone for your prayers and ask for privacy at this time."Mowry-Housley's social media thread hours after the late-night shooting shows the frantic nature of trying to gather information of loved ones after mass shootings. The shooting took place before midnight late Wednesday night, and Mowry-Housley's Instagram post came more than nine hours later. Mowry-Housley's sister Tia Mowry was also active on social media trying to gather information. "Alaina Housely we are praying," Tia Mowry wrote in Instagram Thursday morning. "We love u! If you know anything or any information please let us know. We love you! #borderline"Earlier on Thursday morning, Alaina Housley's roommate had posted a plea on Twitter trying to find information on her roommate. Mowry-Housley responded to her niece's roommate and went to Twitter looking for any information she could gather on her niece. Mowry-Housley's husband Adam Housley then went to a California hospital in search of their niece. The Los Angeles Times reported that he was turned away by guards at the hospital. “My gut is saying she’s inside the bar, dead. I’m hoping I’m wrong,” he told the LA Times. He added that his niece's Apple Watch and iPhone locators were tracked to the bar's dance floor. The Los Angeles Times reported that Alaina Housley was 18 years old and a freshman at Pepperdine University. Pepperdine confirmed that 16 of its students were at the bar at the time of the shooting, and there was one unaccounted for as of late Wednesday morning.  2335

ALABASTER, Ala. — A photographer in Alabama was able to capture the beauty of a rare yellow cardinal that is taking the internet by storm. Jeremy Black took the photograph of the rare yellow bird in Alabaster, Alabama.According to Geoffrey Hill, a bird curator at Auburn University in Alabama, the bird is a rare male northern cardinal that has a "one in a million" genetic mutation that makes its red feathers turn yellow. Additionally, the mutation is so rare, that only one is seen each year in the United States."This yellow cardinal displays a rare mutation causes the metabolic process to produce a different type of pigment than the typical red coloration," Black wrote on his Facebook page.Black says that he was able to photograph the yellow cardinal after his friend, Charlie Stephenson, noticed the bird at her feeder in January. According to National Geographic, on February 17, Black spent five hours in Stephenson's backyard with a camera in hand, hoping the beautiful bird would make a second appearance. "As soon as it landed, I was starstruck," Black told National Geographic. Adnan Syed, the subject of the groundbreaking true crime podcast Serial, has been granted to a new trial by the Maryland Court of Special Appeals, according to the Associated Press.In 2016, a Baltimore City Circuit Court vacated Syed's conviction in the murder of Hae Min Lee. The state then appealed the ruling. According to the Baltimore Sun, the state can still appeal to the Maryland Court of Appeals. It's unclear if the state will choose to do so.Syed was convicted of killing Hae Min Lee in 2000. Actor, writer and media producer Tyler Perry has offered to pay for the funeral for Rayshard Brooks, the man who was killed during an altercation with police in Atlanta on Friday.Attorney L. Chris Stewart, who is representing Brooks' family, said during a press conference on Monday that Perry had offered to pay for funeral arrangements."We want to acknowledge and thank Tyler Perry, who we spoke with, who will be taking care of the funeral for the family," Stewart said. "And it's support like that and it's people who are actually in this community, that love the community, that want healing and families like this to never have to go through something like this. It's a step forward and we want to thank him for such a generous move."Perry has been known to provide funeral services for others in the past. According to ABC News, he paid for the funeral services for two 15-month-old twin sisters who died after they left in a hot car in Georgia in 2016. In 2019, he reportedly paid for the funeral of a single mother of four children from Milwaukee.Earlier this month, boxer Floyd Mayweather, Jr. paid for the funeral services for George Floyd, who died in Minneapolis police custody. Brooks was killed on Friday when police attempted to take him into custody for DUI. A struggle ensued, and Brooks stole an officer's stun gun and tried to flee the scene. Officer Garrett Rolfe shot Brooks in the back twice, and Brooks later died in surgery at a local hospital. Rolfe has since been fired from the Atlanta Police Department, and a medical examiner has ruled the death a homicide. 1595

Rent ranges from ,500 to ,800 a month.For New York's Ocasio-Cortez, that means paying rent in two of the most expensive cities in the country.“To live in two major cities at 29 years old, it's not easy for anybody to do until she gets that income that she's waiting for once her job starts,” Steve Gaich, a relator in D.C., says.After winning her election, Ocasio-Cortez told the New York Times, "I have three months without a salary before I’m a member of Congress. So, how do I get an apartment? Those little things are very real."Other members of Congress have admitted to sleeping on cots and couches in their congressional offices, while some share apartments and homes.“I think the sticker shock does take people back sometimes, and they don't realize I’m paying 0 a month for a full house in Kansas or in Iowa, and 0 might get you a shared room in a house in D.C.,” Gaich says.Members of the House make 4,000, and Ocasio-Cortez admits she'll be fine once she starts receiving a paycheck. But is it enough for the average American to afford to serve in Congress?  “I don't think you have to be rich to run for Congress.
