(AP) — The New York Jets, Indianapolis Colts, Washington Football Team, Broncos, Bears, Titans, Cardinals and Green Bay Packers all canceled practices in an apparent response to the shooting of Jacob Blake, a Black man, in Wisconsin. The Jets provided no immediate details on their decision to not practice Thursday. The Colts posted a statement on Twitter, saying they would not hold their scheduled practice session.“Instead, the team will use the day to discuss and work toward making a lasting social impact and inspiring change in our communities,” the statement said.The Denver Broncos held a team meeting and decided to not practice, and instead use the time to focus on social justice reform. Players with the Chicago Bears "decided to pause our football activities" on Thursday it discuss with each other where they stand on racial injustice.The Washington Football Team was scheduled to practice at FedEx Field. FREDERICK, Colo. – Law enforcement officials said onl Friday that Chris Watts is in protective custody and being isolated from other inmates at the Weld County jail because of the publicity the case has received and say they still have several days of work to do before Monday’s deadline for charges to be filed.Watts, 33, who has been arrested and accused of killing his wife, Shanann, and their two young daughters earlier this week in Frederick, also has declined to speak with the media for the time being at the advice of his attorney, the Weld County Sheriff’s Office said.The sheriff’s office additionally said that Watts is not currently able to receive visitors because he hasn’t been in the jail system for long enough.The Weld County coroner is conducting at least one autopsy related to the deaths of the Watts family Friday. The body believed to be Shanann’s was discovered on Anadarko property, officials said Thursday morning, and those believed to be Celeste and Bella were recovered from oil tanks nearby later Thursday, high-ranking officials said.Frederick police also said on Friday that they believe they have two or three more days of interviews to conduct related to the case. Weld County prosecutors have until 3:30 p.m. Monday to file formal charges against Watts.He is next due in court Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. to learn what formal charges he faces in the case. For 22 years, Derick Waller protected and served in New York City as a member of the New York City Police Department. He joined the NYPD in 1995, starting out as a street cop, but he eventually became a detective.“I absolutely loved being a police officer,” said Waller. “I loved helping with their problems, and I was fortunate to work in the communities of color, which I thought I could serve best.”While Waller enjoyed the comradery with other officers, serving in his hometown communities and helping people in need, there were things about the job he didn’t love and didn’t agree with.“The police department is basically a business, like you work at Macy’s you have to sell. Once you become a police officer, you have to bring in bodies,” said Waller.Bodies, he explained, is a term many officers use to describe when an officer makes an arrest and brings someone in to be booked and processed.“Let’s say you have the company commander of your precinct, he basically gets promoted based on how many arrests he gets,” Waller added.On the surface, that may not seem concerning, but what Waller witnessed was some officers over-policing, especially in communities of color, for the purpose of promotions, higher pay, or because of pressure to fill unofficial quotas.“There are so many amazing officers that just want to do right, but with that pressure on them, how can they?” asked Waller.Toward the end of Waller’s career, he began speaking up about arrest and citation quotas. He made his concerns public on what they were doing to officers’ mentality and the community.He believes what happened to him is a prime example of why so many officers around the country are concerned to speak up when they see another officer potentially doing something wrong or the department implementing questionable policing practices.“A lot of officers want to speak out, but they are so afraid of the retaliation that the police department is going to come after them,” said Waller.After Waller spoke out, he went from being named Officer of the Month to being written up and ridiculed.“I would come back after my days off my locker would be flipped over; they put a big rat poster on your desk, all kinds of stuff,” Waller recalled.Breaking through, the often referred to “blue wall of silence” made the last few years of his career tough, but he left the job still hopeful that improvements with policing could come.“There are many officers who love the job and there are good officers, more than not,” said Waller. “Right now, the definition of a good officer is the one who brings in those arrests. If we can change the definition, then maybe we can change the mentality of the police department.”Waller’s definition of a good officer is one who is respected but not feared in their community. 2796

For the first time, accused Waffle House gunman Travis Reinking has broken his silence.Reinking has been accused of murdering four people and injuring four others in a mass shooting at the Antioch, Tennessee restaurant last month.  Four people – 29-year-old Taurean Sanderlin, of Goodlettsville; 20-year-old Joe Perez, of Nashville; 21-year-old DeEbony Groves, of Gallatin; and 23-year-old Akilah DaSilva, of Antioch – were killed. Reinking was arrested the next day after a massive manhunt, booked into the jail and then he decided he wanted to talk.  He's locked up and undergoing a mental evaluation. In an exclusive interview, Reinking breaks his silence about his case. He called reporter Nick Beres at Scripps station WTVF  from maximum security at the Davidson County Jail. Reinking said he wanted to talk about his case, his mental health and his lawyers.  "About what I'm thinking and what I, I'd like to say on my behalf and stuff like that," Reinking said. In the days after his arrest, Davidson County Sheriff Daron Hall talked about Reinking's behavior and compared him to another accused mass shooter in the jail. That would be Emanuel Samson, who's charged with killing one person last year at the Burnette Chapel Church of Christ, also in Antioch. "I would use the word a little bit more normal for this one compared to the Emanuel [Samson] case, as it relates to interaction. That's probably the word that's been used the most," Hall said at the time.  Since Reinking's arrest, many have wondered if he will try using the insanity defense. When asked about his mental fitness he said, "Yeah, no… I'm perfectly healthy."  As for the shooting at the Waffle House? He wasn't ready to talk about that. "I'd rather not in the setting I'm at right now," Reinking said. But he did talk about his pending criminal case. Reinking has two appointed lawyers, but he said he plans to handle his own legal defense. "That's the thing, I'm choosing to represent myself. I don't know how that works. I didn't like those attorneys," Reinking said. He will likely address that at his next court appearance on June 1. Former Vice President Joe Biden said a candidate's age is a "legitimate" issue in elections -- including if he were to run for president in 2020."I think age is a totally legitimate thing to raise," Biden said during a question and answer session at the Economic Club of Southwestern Michigan's Speaker Series Tuesday. "I think it's totally appropriate for people to look at me and say if I were to run for office again, 'Well God darn you're old.'
