SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County Fire is offering some residents key safe boxes that allow first responders to gain access to homes in emergency situations, County News Center reports.The boxes, called KnoxBoxes, are installed on or near the front door and can only be opened by local firefighters responding to life-threatening emergencies, the county says.County Supervisor Dianne Jacob says the program fulfills an urgent need.“For older folks with chronic health conditions or in need of help with basic activities, KnoxBoxes can be a lifesaver,” said Jacob. “These devices can also provide some peace of mind in a region where wildfire is a year-round threat.”County Fire received a federal grant to help purchase 200 boxes. The county plans to loan the boxes to residents in rural communities.So far, the county says it has received 70 applications. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Restaurant owners across San Diego County are preparing to once again take their indoor operations outside, but some say this latest move will put them out of business for good.On Tuesday, state health officials announced updated data that places the county in the restrictive purple tier under California's COVID-19 reopening plan.For Ike Gazaryan and other local business owners, this will be the third time since March that they will be forced to shut down.Gazaryan, who owns Pushkin Russian Restaurant and Bar on Sixth Avenue in the Gaslamp Quarter, said, "Every time you shut down and open, it costs ,000, ,000 because you have to buy all the produce, you have to bring all the employees back, you have to clean everything.”Gazaryan told ABC 10News that outdoor dining isn't an option at his location, and he said weather isn't the only issue."Before you had a lot of people and they were able to somewhat control the homelessness. Now, there are a lot of people losing everything they had, you have more homeless people, you have less people walking around because nobody is working in the offices, so percentage-wise it looks like it's a homeless town at this point," said Gazaryan.Gazaryan owns the restaurant and two other related businesses. He doesn't want to have to fire his 20 employees, but he doesn't think he's going to make it."I'm really afraid I'm going to lose my restaurant before the end of this year. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police have identified the man killed in an officer-involved shooting this week in Mountain View.Police said 39-year-old Jose Alfredo Castro-Gutierrez was shot and killed after officers responded to the 300 block of South Pardee Street just before 5 a.m. on Monday over reports of a violent disturbance involving a weapon.According to SDPD, Castro-Gutierrez was staying at a home as a guest when the residents were woken up by him. He had reportedly been acting paranoid and ripped a metal curtain rod from a window and began breaking windows and other objects in the home.RELATED: San Diego Police shoot, kill vandalism suspect in Mountain ViewWhen police arrived, they saw Castro-Gutierrez in the front window and could hear him breaking objects and yelling inside.SDPD says officers gave directions in English and Spanish to try and communicate with Castro-Gutierrez but got no response. Eventually, Castro-Gutierrez crawled out of a broken window and made his way to the front of the property where officers were.Police said Castro-Gutierrez began to run at full speed toward them with the metal pole, prompting three officers to fire their weapons at him: One officer fired a bean bag round, another officer fired a Taser, and a third officer fired several rounds from his service pistol, SDPD says.Castro-Gutierrez was hit by at least one round and fell to the ground. Officers started first aid at the scene, but Castro-Gutierrez was pronounced dead at the hospital.The officer who fired his service pistol was identified as Isai Castillo, a two-year veteran of SDPD assigned to Southeastern Division.SDPD's homicide unit is currently investigating the shooting, after which the San Diego County District Attorney's Office will review the case to determine if the officers bear any criminal liability. Now, we didn’t achieve that, but more important than that, we want to live to our values every day, and we unequivocally lived to the values we want to live to,” said Landon Donovan, the U.S. soccer star who serves as the team’s executive vice president.The squad, playing in the United States Soccer Federation (USSF)-sanctioned Division II, first had to deal with the repercussions of a global pandemic, postponing their season in March. The metrics were then organized under either "budget and participation" and "sports and outdoors."San Diego ranked first in fitness centers and sports centers per capita, seventh in baseball and softball diamonds per capita, 22nd in basketball hoops per capita, 16th in parkland acres per capita, and 30th in walking.
