Hurricane watches were issued Wednesday afternoon for part of the Louisiana Gulf Coast as an unnamed tropical system is expected to gain strength. As of 4 p.m. CT, the storm which is being called for now "potential tropical cyclone two," was located 255 miles south east of Morgan City, Louisiana. Former Pro Bowl running back Clinton Portis and other retired NFL players have been charged by a federal grand jury with defrauding the NFL's retiree health care benefits plan for more than million, according to two indictments unsealed Thursday."Ten former NFL players allegedly committed a brazen, multi-million dollar fraud on a health care plan meant to help their former teammates and other retired players pay legitimate, out-of-pocket medical expenses," Assistant Attorney General Brian Benczkowski said in a statement.The former NFL players allegedly submitted fraudulent health care claims seeking to be reimbursed for expensive medical equipment that was never purchased, typically about ,000 to ,000 per claim, court records show.The equipment included hyperbaric oxygen chambers, ultrasound machines designed for a doctor's office to conduct women's health examinations, and electromagnetic therapy devices made for horses, prosecutors said.In addition, some defendants personally profited by receiving reimbursements from the plan or by recruiting other retired players to participate in the scheme in exchange for kickbacks and bribes, the indictments say. Patricia Pope, a Greenfield native, worked as a receptionist at Eli Lilly for 28 years. "She drove a Kia and lived in 0,000 home," Ginny Brown, a Hancock County resident, said. "She was very frugal. And it was kind of a shock really that she had all that money."When she died she left 0,000 for Greenfield-Central High School, Eastern Hancock County High School, and Greenfield-Hancock Animal Management, ,000 for the Greenfield Police Department and ,000 for the Hancock County Sheriff's Office. She left a total of million to various organizations, including the ones above."I guess her parents divorced when she was young, so she was unable to go to college.
