BROKEN ARROW, Okla. -  A Green Country, Oklahoma couple got the opportunity of a lifetime, a free wedding from perfect strangers planned in a day."It's all because of God that all of this has happened," said Willow Creek Mansion owner Cortney Gertner.The sun set outside the Broken Arrow mansion Wednesday evening, but the excitement inside was rising. "I didn't think we would find a bride and groom," said Poppy's Garden owner Meagan Ferren.This all started with her leftover flowers from a photo shoot a few days before."She was going to throw all of the flowers away and I was like, you can't just throw all of those beautiful flowers away," Gertner said."I was like, I know it's going to make me absolutely sick to my stomach," Ferren said.But Ferren had an idea."Then she was like, no we should find somebody that wants to get married in the next day or two and I said, seriously? And she was like, yea, you should post something about that."Gertner put the post on the mansion's Facebook page offering a free wedding in just two days."Whenever I went to my Facebook app It was the first thing I'd seen," said bride Karissa Alexander, who said she thought it was hilarious."I sent it to him as a joke.""She kind of sent it to me laughing, you know. So I sent it back, 'do it,'" said then, fiance Tyler Alexander.He was kidding, of course.But it was too late.Just 24 hours later, Karissa's bridal suite was buzzing."It was actually setup for September of last year and we postponed it for this year."Reflecting on a trying year that left her handcrafted wedding dress sitting in her mother's closet waiting indefinitely for the day Tyler could finally see it.The moment, was unforgettable."Everything that's happened has been, I just feel like it's a God thing," Ferren said.Everything coming together for the anniversary date that chose them.The day, planned in a day, is one they'll never forget.Karissa and Tyler said they're extremely grateful to every vendor and professional that dedicated their talents for free to their special day: Willow Creek Mansion (Venue), Poppy's Garden (Florist), Tracie Carlton Event Planning & Design (Officiant husband Matt), Katrina Wheeler Photography (photographer), Laurannae Baking Co. Black people from all walks of life are sharing their experiences of racism, why they’re hopeful about the current movement and how we can heal as a country.Evangelical leader Tony Evans is one of the most respected Christian pastors in the country. He shared his thoughts on how the church played a role in racism and how it can lead in the solution.“As a boy growing up in Baltimore, Maryland, I had to deal with my father explaining to me why we couldn’t go into certain restaurants due to segregation,” said Evans.As a 70-year-old black man, Evans says he has experienced his fair share of racism and discrimination.“I’ve gotten pulled over by police because I was in the wrong neighborhood,” he said. “’Why are you driving in this neighborhood?’ In college I went to a white church and the church told me that I was not welcome there.”Segregation nearly kept Evans from becoming the first African American to earn a Doctor of Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary. “If I would have applied a few years earlier, they would not have let me in, because that was part of a whole history of segregation, that was even in the theological religious realm,” he said.Early in his preaching, Evans says radio stations told him a black speaker might offend too many white listeners.“Circumstance after circumstance like that where I have in my sphere, both secular and sacred, where I have seen unrighteous decisions made on the basis of race and it contradicted the theology I was learning,” he said.Evans says the church was also a major contributor to racism today.“If it had never endorsed the unrighteous system of slavery in America, if it never gave theological validation for it, if it never supported the social construct of it, then we would not have it, because it would have trained its people to infiltrate the culture with a righteous and just world view,” he said.Evans, who wrote a book on race called “Oneness Embraced,” says churches need to lead in the solution through service.“Black Christians and white Christians crossing racial lines to serve other people in need,” said Evans. “When we decide we are going to cross the line to adopt public schools, to adopt the local police precinct, to adopt the central services in the community, to handle the homelessness in the community. We could turn this thing around in a very short period of time because they would see us leading the way, not merely reacting to what people are doing at either extreme in the culture.”Evans laid out a more detailed national three-point plan for how churches can respond to racism.“This is where God must be brought into play. And I must say, if he is left out, there will be no solution because he's the one who is ticked off about it.” 2746

Buddy, the first dog to test positive for novel coronavirus in the United States, has died, according to a report.The Staten Island German shepherd tested positive on June 1, six weeks after be began struggling to breathe, National Geographic reported Wednesday. He died on July 11.Less than two dozen animals across the country have tested positive for COVID-19, according to public health records.One of Buddy's owners was also sick with coronavirus, according to the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service.Buddy was expected to recover, but he also likely had lymphoma, National Geographic reported. BARABOO, Wis. -- The 10-year-old Baraboo girl who was the subject of a statewide AMBER Alert has been found dead, police say.According to police, Kodie B. Dutcher's body was found around 11 a.m. Tuesday near 11th St. and Taft Ave. in Baraboo. Lt. Ryan Labroscian said a death investigation to determine what happened is now underway, according to our sister station Channel 3000 in Madison.An AMBER Alert had been issued for Kodie Monday night after she was last seen Monday afternoon. (AP) — A Tennessee school district has issued an apology for a social studies assignment that asked students to pretend to be slave-owners and brainstorm expectations for their slaves.The Tennessean reported Thursday that Williamson County Schools and Sunset Middle School apologized for the assignment, saying it was inappropriate. The homework also assigned other tasks including the creation of a political cartoon depicting immigrant labor in the U.S. and writing a public service announcement about the hazards of living in urban areas.The two teachers who assigned the homework also apologized, saying in a statement that the assignment has been pulled and won't be graded.The Tennessee Department of Education says the middle school is 70 percent white. 785
