MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- A Wisconsin man is accused of driving across Milwaukee with the body of a man who had fatally overdosed in the passenger seat for 13 hours straight.The Washington County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday it has arrested the 34-year-old man in connection to the death of the victim, whose lifeless body was later found in the Allenton Marsh.The sheriff’s office says the suspect, whom they did not name, was last seen with the victim, 30-year-old Stephen Lombard, in the Village of Jackson on July 27.A missing persons investigation was launched with the assistance of the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigations.A several-month-long investigation eventually concluded that on the night of July 27, Lombard and the suspect were in Milwaukee using illegal narcotics.Investigators believe that at some time, Lombard stopped breathing while inside the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect did not seek medical aid, authorities say, and Lombard died from a probable drug overdose.The suspect then drove around Milwaukee with Lombard's body still in the passenger seat for the next 13 hours. During that time, the suspect used the victim's debit card at several locations, authorities say.Investigators believe the suspect then discarded Lombard’s body on July 28 in the Allenton Marsh, off CTH W, north of CTH S in the Town of Addison.That's where authorities found a body they believe to be Lombard's.DNA analysis will be required for positive identification. NATIONAL CITY, Calif. — A National City crematorium owner denied Friday that human remains were released into the air during a furnace emergency at the facility.National City firefighters responded to a call Thursday afternoon at the Cortez Family Crematorium, located about 10 minutes south of San Diego.A furnace door was open while the system was operating, triggering the building’s heat detectors. A plume of smoke rose from the building and drifted east.A National City Fire captain and the San Diego Air Pollution Control District indicated human remains were released into the air along with chemicals, the crematorium owner disputes the information.Angela Cortez of the Cortez Family Crematorium says the human remains were covered with a cardboard box at the time of the emergency. The box caught fire due to ambient heat in the furnace and the remains were not burned, she said. Firefighters reset the system, which shut the door and the cremation resumed.The San Diego Air Pollution Control District said there was no public health risk from the smoke.The California Cemetery and Funeral Bureau says it is investigating the situation.Cortez Family Crematorium has been operating since 2014 and has no record of violations, state officials said.  1290

Biden will instead accept the nomination in Delaware.“From the very beginning of this pandemic, we put the health and safety of the American people first. MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — One of four former Minneapolis police officers charged in the death of George Floyd is asking to have his case dismissed.An attorney for Thomas Lane said in court papers that the case against his client should be dismissed for lack of probable cause.As part of his court filing, attorney Earl Gray filed transcripts from body camera footage recorded by Lane's camera and the camera of his partner.The transcripts, obtained by the Star Tribune and New York Times, show that Floyd begged officers not to shoot him during the initial encounter and later pleaded for them not to place him in the back of the squad car because he was claustrophobic and had just had COVID-19.At one point, Floyd said “I can’t believe this. I can’t believe this. Mom, I love you. Tell my kids I love them. I’m dead,” according to the transcripts.The transcripts say former officer Derek Chauvin then told Floyd he was under arrest and that he was “doing a lot of talking, man.”That’s when Gray says Lane asked twice if the officers should turn Floyd on his side, but Chauvin said no and used his knee to pin Floyd to the ground.Chauvin then knelt on Floyd's neck for nearly eight minutes, which was caught on video and has now been seen by people across the world.
