SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- More than a thousand job seekers attended the annual Jobtoberfest at Pechanga Arena in San Diego Tuesday..One of those looking for a new position was Mirella Solis. She's living with cerebal palsy which has kept her in a wheelchair. But, it's not holding her back. "When people look at me. It's been really hard, but I overcome that. You can do anything, I tell people you can do anything in the world," said Solis.Solid has worked in the security field and wants to move onto bigger opportunities so she decided to attend this job fair.Charlene Autolino is the chair of San Diego Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities, which put the fair together. She said the event gives many more than just a job, but motivation to strive for more."Imagine being told for years that you can't do anything because of this disability, or you aren't capable of able which is not true," said Autolino.The organizer of this event will also be hosting a similar job fair specifically for veterans in November. 1031

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Over the last year, thousands of San Diegans received incorrect water bills, but as the city recently discovered, thousands of customers received no bills at all.Officials said at a news conference Thursday afternoon that as many as 2,500 customers may have been affected over the last three to six months. In a press release sent to 10News Thursday, the city blamed a backlog of work orders and additional training for staff on a gap between meters and the public utilities department billing system.RELATED: Audit shows City sent thousands of faulty water bills?The city says meters were still collecting usage data, but the information wasn't being generated into a bill.Earlier this year, Mayor Kevin Faulconer asked the department to re-read every meter in the city. After the project was complete, workers found 10,000 meters broken, damaged or in need of replacement. The city is working to notify customers of the amounts they may owe and says that no water service will be affected. The city also promised that payment plans will be made available for customers.The issue comes on the heels of another problem with the department. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - On Monday, San Diego City Attorney Mara Elliott announced that the courts officially ordered the closure of a notorious independent living facility home off Ewing Street in the College Area, following a lawsuit brought by the City last November.“The circumstances were egregious,” Elliott told ABC 10News on Monday. She said the facility is no longer allowed to operate anywhere in San Diego County.“It was filthy. There were bed bugs. There were roaches. The air quality was not good,” she added. Officers had reportedly been called out nearly 300 times for issues like disturbing the peace and suicide threats.Now, the facility’s manager, operator and owners are ordered to pay a collective 7,000 in fines and restitution for victims.Eric Ching represents the homeowners who claim they had no idea the property was being used as an independent living facility. “They’re in Hong Kong. They’re elderly…they own this property [and] have a property manager that was supposed to manage this property. They were unaware of this problem until last year,” he told ABC 10News.Generally, independent living facilities provide the most vulnerable people with a last chance for housing before becoming homeless. This house had ten people living inside using disability checks to pay rent of up to ,000 a month.Elliott said the closure was part of a bigger crackdown. “It is one of our biggest objectives at the City Attorney's Office. We feel like we're the office that can stand up for the little guy…the most vulnerable [person] who otherwise would have nobody else to call,” she added.Elliott said that the facility’s operator, Mark Rogers, is charged with elder abuse and threats in a separate criminal case, which is still unresolved in the courts.ABC 10 News reached out to the attorneys for the other parties involved and are waiting for replies. 1875

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - On Normal Street in Hillcrest Friday, things were anything but normal.   Tim Henderson and his colleagues were checking email in the street."Just a minute ago, we had a meeting out here," he says while pointing to an assortment of chairs.    He and his co-workers at KTUA, a landscape architecture and planning firm, set up a little home office in a spot usually occupied by 3 to 4 parked cars.   The space was decorated with plants and patio furniture.Welcome to “Park(ing) Day 2017,” billed as a worldwide event where artists and designers transform metered parking spots into temporary public parks.    The event ran Friday from 9AM – 3PM, with several downtown businesses also taking park."We're in a ‘car-centric’ world, we always have to supply places for cars,” Tim explained.  “We're making a statement: during some part of the year, you can come out into a space not  being used for cars -- and have a park!"Henderson and his work buddies barbecued in the parking spots and even roasted s’mores.Parking is at a premium in Hillcrest, but Henderson said nobody seemed to mind them taking up the spots.    In fact, he said drivers had been slowing down to catch a glimpse at the “front yard” they created on the street.“They love it,” he said. 1351
