BEIJING, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- Chen Jian, Chinese vice Commerce Minister said here on Saturday that the country would provide better development conditions for foreign multinational corporations (MNCs).     "China would ramp up efforts to create better legal protection, policy support, market environment and growth opportunities for them," Chen said at the 2nd International CEO Roundtable of Chinese and Foreign MNCs.     He said global investors' confidence would not recover in a short period of time amid the financial turmoil and predicted the combined foreign direct investment (FDI) globally could possibly decrease by 10 to 30 percent.     Figures revealed that FDI in China expanded by 35.06 percent in the first 10 months year on year to 81.1 billion U.S. dollars.     However, FDI in China stood at 6.72 billion U.S. dollars last month, down by 2.02 percent year on year. This was the first time that China saw negative FDI growth this year.     Chen added that although the current financial turmoil would brought some challenges to Chinese economy, China still boasts the potential of stable and relatively fast economic growth

BEIJING, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao on Tuesday spoke over phone with his U.S. counterpart George W. Bush about international cooperation to cope with the ongoing global financial turmoil.     The leaders exchanged ideas about the planned international financial summits and strengthening international cooperation to stabilize the financial markets.     Bush said the United States hopes to make joint efforts with the international community to seek measures to overcome the crisis and maintain the stability of the world economy.     Hu, for his part, said China has noted the efforts made by the U.S. government to stabilize the domestic financial market. He expressed hope that the measures would take effect as soon as possible, restore investor confidence and prevent further expansion of the crisis.     The measures are conducive to the stability of the world economy and financial markets, Hu said.     The Chinese government has taken a series of important measures to tackle the financial crisis and maintain the stability of financial and capital markets, as well as ensure steady economic growth, he added.     The government of China will continue to assume a responsible attitude toward the Chinese people and people of other countries, and to work closely with the international community to maintain the stability of the global economy and financial markets, President Hu said.

ANKARA, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin arrived here Wednesday, starting an official goodwill visit to Turkey as guest of Koksal Toptan, speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly.     In a written statement delivered upon arrival at the airport, Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said both China and Turkey have a long history and splendid culture, and friendly exchanges between the two peoples date back to ancient times. BEIJING, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- China Saturday expressed "serious concerns" over India's anti-subsidy investigation on sodium nitrite on Jan. 14 and probe into the special safeguard measure of sodium carbonate on Jan. 16.     Following bilateral consultations, China has urged domestic businesses to contact their Indian peers and solve trade issues through talks and cooperation, Yao Jian, spokesman of the Ministry of Commerce, said in a statement.     But India didn't respond to Chinese efforts and launched its first anti-subsidy probe over Chinese-made sodium nitrite, Yao said. "China expresses dissatisfaction over it," he noted.     China also expressed resolute opposition to India's probe into the special safeguard measure of sodium carbonate, the spokesman stated.     The probe not only hurts the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese businesses, but has negative impact on the stable bilateral trade relations, Yao said.     The current global financial crisis has serious impact on the economies worldwide and all nations need to boost cooperation in fighting the crisis, he said.     China hoped that India could show prudence and restraint in using trade remedies, as trade protectionism could only add to the grim world trade situation.     He added that China and India should step up consultations and promote cooperation among industries from the two developing nations.

GENEVA, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- The World Economic Forum (WEF) is "very proud" that it has managed to maintain "very positive" ties with China, a senior WEF official has said.     "We all know that China is an important factor in the future evolution and development of worldwide economy. So we are all very interested in what China will be doing," said Andre Schneider, managing director and chief operating officer of the Geneva-based organization.     In a recent interview with Xinhua before next week's opening of the 2009 WEF annual meeting, also known as the Davos Forum, in the Swiss Alpine skiing resort Davos.     More than 40 heads of state or government, including Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, and some 1,400 business leaders, have confirmed their participation at the five-day meeting scheduled to deal with the ongoing financial crisis and other global challenges.     Premier Wen's participation will certainly be "a unique opportunity" for the world to better understand what are the plans of the Chinese leadership to deal with the crisis, Schneider said.     Schneider noted the first two WEF annual meetings of the new champions, dubbed "Summer Davos Forum," were both held in China, in Dalian in 2007 and Tianjin a year later.     The success of the "Summer Davos Forum," a gathering of new multinational companies from China and across the world to explore the mechanisms of continued and sustainable growth, indicated the strong collaboration between the two sides, he said.     The WEF's choice of China as the host of the "Summer Davos Forum" was "an absolutely right one," he said.     Schneider noted that cooperation between the WEF and China started in 1979, when China first sent a delegation to the Davos Forum.     China and its economic growth has been a topic of interest for participants at the Davos Forum in recent years.     In June 2006, the organization opened a representative office in Beijing, which aims to deal with all interactions with China. "It's a clear sign of our deepened collaboration," he said.
