The Boston Marathon clarified on Sunday its policy on allowing transgender athletes to compete in its annual event, saying that athletes do not have to share their gender history with race officials, NPR reported. The Marathon also confirmed that transgender runners have competed in past events. "We don't require that runners outline their gender identity history with us, so we can't say for certain how many trans runners are in our race," the Boston Athletic Association, organizer of the annual Boston Marathon, said in a statement to NPR. "We do know that we have had several transgender runners in the past."Last month in the Canadian publication "Running Magazine," three transgender women told the magazine that they plan on competing as women in this year's Boston Marathon, which will be held on April 16. The story drew questions on whether transgender athletes competing as women would be at an advantage. Although the Boston Marathon is generally considered a competition for amateur athletes, it has strict qualification standards based on athletes' age and gender. Before the 2016 Summer Olympics, the International Olympic Committee developed criteria to ensure that transgender athletes could compete in their desired gender, while trying not to give any competitive advantage. Texas Southern University in Houston evacuated its campus on Wednesday due to a bomb threat received by the Houston Police Department directed at the university. The university announced on its social media channels that all classes are canceled for the rest of the day, and that all students, faculty and employees should evacuate campus. Houston Police said it received the threat via its emergency call center around 1:40 p.m. CT on Wednesday. As of late Wednesday afternoon, there have not been any confirmed bombs found on campus. Texas Southern is a public historically black university with an enrollment of nearly 10,000. 667

The addition of a "notorious" galactic cantina will bring not only smugglers and bounty hunters to Disneyland in 2019, but also alcohol sales for the first time.Disneyland's "Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge" will be home to Oga's Cantina, an "otherworldy" stop for music and exotic concoctions, park officials announced Thursday.Among the cantina's limited menu options will be wine, beer, and both non-alcoholic and alcoholic cocktails, according to Disney officials. Officials added that those drinks will need to consumed inside the cantina — so no running around at light speed with a drink.Menu options for kids and those under 21 will also be available, officials promised.The "Star Wars" inspired cocktails mark the first time alcohol will be publicly sold at the park since it opened in 1955.Alcohol sales are already allowed at Disneyland's California Adventure Park and Downtown Disney. The only other area inside Disneyland where alcohol is served is inside the park’s secretive private Club 33.Oga's Cantina sits in what Disney officials are calling the Black Spire Outpost on planet Batuu. TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — An upcoming rule change at the U.S. Department of Justice means federal inmate executions, which are currently carried out by lethal injection could happen by other means, such as a firing squad or electrocution.Currently, all federal executions are done via lethal injection unless a court specifically orders otherwise. The rule change gives the federal government greater flexibility to execute people by other means.The change states that federal executions are to be carried out by lethal injection “or by any other manner prescribed by the law of the State in which the sentence was imposed or which has been designated by a court.”According to the Death Penalty Information Center, all states that allow the death penalty authorize a lethal injection method. Nine states allow electrocution, seven allow lethal gas and three allow a firing squad. Most states that allow methods other than lethal injection do so only under the provision that the injection is found to be unconstitutional, unavailable or impractical.The DOJ rule change goes into effect on Dec. 24, before three more federal inmates are scheduled to be executed. Inmates are scheduled to be executed on Jan. 12, Jan. 14 and Jan. 15.If executions by other means will happen, it’s unlikely they will happen at the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Terre Haute, where federal executions typically take place. The DOJ notice states that the Terre Haute complex is equipped for carrying out executions only by lethal injection. The Arab-American community is on high alert because of a hateful flier that is circulating.The flier promotes April 3 as "Punish a Muslim Day" and encourages violence against Muslims with an escalating point system the more outrageous the act.The fliers originated in London. They were left on the steps of several mosques there.The message is now being spread to the U.S. by way of social media and raising concerns.“We're encouraging the community to be vigilant and to have open lines of communication with local law enforcement. And, if you feel you’re in danger, call law enforcement immediately,” says American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee Legal and Policy Director Abed Ayoub. “ This is outrageous, this can not be happening in 2018. This is a clear sign of xenophobia, Islamophobia, and the unfortunate direction some individuals, not only in the UK, but in the United States are heading.”Ayoub says the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee stands ready to help those in the community who may be harmed through any hateful acts. 1068
