Several Kentucky teachers won't be going to work Friday after the state legislature approved changes to their pension on Thursday.Educators, who are furious over the pension issue, called out of work in protest. At least nine counties have canceled school, the Kentucky Democrats tweeted early Friday. SOUTH PADRE, Texas — A Minnesota woman accused of murdering her husband before killing a Bradenton woman in order to steal her identity was arrested on Thursday in Texas, according to the US Marshal's office.Lois Riess was facing second-degree murder charges in Rochester, Minnesota in the shooting death of her husband, David Riess, in March. She then allegedly fled to Southwest Florida, where she befriended 59-year-old Pamela Hutchinson, of Bradenton, and targeted her due to their similar appearance. Investigators said Riess murdered Hutchinson in Fort Myers Beach, then took her ID and car and fled Southwest Florida. She was believed to have traveled through the Gulf coast states to Corpus Cristi, Texas. 766

SORRENTO VALLEY, Calif. (KGTV) - Another San Diego-based company is moving forward on developing a vaccine for the coronavirus. Sorrento Therapeutics is working on several projects that they believe could lead to viable vaccines or treatments. One of them was announced on Monday. Sorrento Therapeutics said it was partnering with Boston-based Smartpharm to create a gene-encoded antibody vaccine. “In the effort to more quickly resolve the global COVID-19 crisis, our company has initiated a rapidly accelerated program for the identification of potent neutralizing antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus antigens that may be used for either treatment or prophylaxis,” said Henry Ji, CEO of Sorrento Therapeutics. Sorrento Therapeutics is also working on another vaccine called the I-Cell project. That vaccine uses a decoy virus to activate a person’s immune system to train it to attack the real virus. It’s also developing a protein called COVIDTRAP that can bind to the receptors on the coronavirus, thus blocking it from being able to bind to the receptors on healthy human cells. If proven succesful, it could be used as a treatment or preventative measure.How long will it take for them to be ready?“That all depends on what leeway the FDA gives us,” said Mark Brunswick, Senior Vice President of Regulatory Affairs at Sorrento Therapeutics. (KGTV) - The Solana Beach City Council is the latest local government body to take up the gun control debate in the wake of recent mass shootings.On Wednesday night, the council passed Resolution 2018-036, which calls upon California Congressmen and women to pass gun safety regulations.Included in the resolution is official opposition to the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017, currently making its way through Congress.That bill would force states to honor Concealed Carry Permits from other states, regardless of how strict or relaxed each state's regulations are.Other parts of the Solana Beach resolution call for:- Raising the minimum age to buy a gun to 21- Banning the sale of military-style semiautomatic and automatic weapons- Banning the sale of high capacity magazines that hold more than 10 cartridges- Universal background checks- Mandatory safety training before buying a gun- A 10-day waiting period before taking possession of a gunYou can read the full text of the resolution here.The resolution makes Solana Beach the second city council in San Diego County to take up the issue.
