BEIJING, April 13 (Xinhua) -- House prices in 70 major Chinese cities fell 1.3 percent in March from a year earlier, the National Bureau of Statistics said Monday.     The month-on-month figure, however, rose 0.2 percent in March.     In the first quarter, the area of commercial houses sold rose 8.2 percent to 113 million square meters and sales jumped 23.1 percent to 505.9 billion yuan (74 billion U.S. dollars), the NBS said.     Prices of new houses fell 1.9 percent year-on-year last month but rose 0.1 percent from February. Prices for second-hand houses rose 0.3 percent month-on-month despite of a decline of 0.4 percent from a year earlier.     Analysts warned it was still too early to say the property market had revived, as sales were mainly driven by surging credit and by stimulus policies, such as tax cuts. Other indicators, such as land purchases by developers, had shown no signs of recovery.     Floor areas of newly built houses in the first quarter tumbled 16.2 percent to 201 million sq m. The decline was 1.4 percentage points more than the January-February figure.     Land purchased for homebuilding fell more than 40 percent in the first quarter to 47.42 million sq m, and the actual area developed shrank 11.3 percent to 52.2 million sq m.     China Vanke, the country's biggest property developer by market value, reported on April 11 its first-quarter sales rose 21 percent to 12.22 billion yuan. Those of Poly Real Estate Group, the second-biggest, doubled to 6.48 billion yuan.

BEIJING, March 16 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam is ready to make joint efforts with China to advance the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic and cooperative partnership, a senior Vietnamese official said here Monday. Pham Quang Nghi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC), made the remarks during his talks with Liu Qi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).     Liu said the two parties had increased exchanges on theory and practice of socialist construction since the two top leaders reached an important consensus on the development of Sino-Vietnamese relations last year. BEIJING, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Chinese equities closed 1.47 percent up Wednesday to stand at 2,408.02 points, surpassing the 2,400 points mark, echoing the overnight Wall Street rebound.     The Shanghai Composite Index gained 34.81 points, or 1.47 percent to 2,408.02. The Shenzhen Component Index rose 174.06 points, or 1.94 percent to 9,156.01.     Gains outnumbered losses by 675 to 183 in Shanghai and 599 to 140 in Shenzhen.     Combined turnover expanded to 250.67 billion yuan (36.68 billion U.S. dollars) from 200.03 billion yuan on the previous trading day.     Coal shares boosted the index up, as there were reports Monday that the government might consider raising the coal price by 4 percent.     China Shenhua Energy, the country's leading coal producer, gained 5.8 percent to 21.9 yuan, while China Coal jumped 5.65 percent to 9.17 yuan.     The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index continued the upward trend of the previous trading day and touched a 2422.63 points intra-day high Wednesday, exceeding the previous intra-day high of 2402 points on Feb. 17.     Zhang Yunpeng, an analyst with Beijing-based Huarong Securities, said investors should not be overly optimistic about the continuing rebound, as the turnover in recent days was lower than that in mid-February, which suggested that some investors were still cautious.     China's top banking regulator Liu Mingkang said Tuesday the government would require foreign banks taking stakes in domestic commercial banks to hold those stakes for at least five years, rather than three as at present, to reduce risks for local banks.     Zhang said this was a piece of positive news for Chinese bank stocks for the long run, as this move would help stabilize their share prices.     The Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, China's top lender, rose 0.76 percent to 3.97, while the China Construction Bank, the country's second largest commercial lender, gained 0.47 percent to 4.32 yuan.     Chongqing Iron and Steel Co. rose 1.24 percent to 4.91 yuan, after the steel producer reported a 33.18 percent growth in net profit to 598.3 million yuan last year in its annual report released Wednesday.

BEIJING, April 8 (Xinhua) -- China and Venezuela agreed here Wednesday to step up cooperation in fields such as energy, agriculture, and high technology and take joint actions in the face of the global financial crisis.     The agreement was reached in a meeting between Chinese President Hu Jintao and his visiting Venezuelan counterpart Hugo Chavez. The Chinese Foreign Ministry said the two exchanged in-depth views on bilateral relations and other issues of common concern and reached an important consensus.     Hu highlighted the robust growth of bilateral relations during the meeting, saying that China was satisfied with the positive outcomes from bilateral economic and technological cooperation, progress made on some key projects and close coordination on international and regional issues. BEIJING, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi on Sunday held phone talks respectively with U.S secretary of state and foreign ministers of Russia, Japan and South Korea on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's (DPRK) launching activity.     China has noticed the DPRK's announcement of having launched an experimental communications satellite and taken note of the concerns expressed by the relevant parties on this issue, Yang told his counterparts of the U.S., Russia, Japan and South Korea Hillary Clinton, Sergei Lavrov, Hirofumi Nakasone, and Yu Myung Hwan.     China, as a close neighbor of the Korean Peninsular, has always been committed to safeguarding peace and stability on the Korean Peninsular and in the Northeast Asia region, Yang said.     The Chinese government lately has reiterated its stance on solving the issue through dialogue and consultation and opposing any actions that could complicate the situation and escalate tension, he added.     To push forward the six-party talks, build a nuclear-free Korean Peninsular and maintain peace and stability in Northeast Asia are in the interests of all parties concerned and also the common aspirations of the international community, said the Chinese minister.     He said the Chinese side urged all relevant parties to show restraint and avoid any moves that could further increase tension in the region.     China will address the current situation in a responsible and constructive manner, Yang said, noting that China is willing to communicate with all parties concerned to solve the issue properly.     China will join efforts with other parties to advance the six-party talks and safeguard peace and stability of the Korean Peninsular, he added.     Russian, Japanese, South Korean foreign ministers and the U.S. sectary of state also expressed their countries' willingness to continue exchanges of views and consultation with China on the issue.
