SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- A Solana Beach man's trip to Bali takes an unexpected turn after a motorcycle accident. While he's thousands of miles away, the pandemic has made things even more complicated.28-year-old Anthony Galvan- Schaible packed his bags for Bali in February with the intent to stay until April. In March, the pandemic hit, forcing him to stay in Paradise a little longer."It was one of those things to sit it out and wait was the better idea," says Galvan- Schaible.He says one night he hopped on his motorcycle, and that's when things took an unexpected turn."The bike went to the street. I went to the left and ended up in a little ditch head first."He was rushed to the hospital after hitting his head on a concrete pillar. The impact compressed his spine. Within hours he was taken to emergency surgery. Galvan- Schaible now has multiple screws and plates along his back."It's terrifying… when they're across the planet and get hurt," says Mom, Jamie Schaible. "All you can think of is how can they get the care that they would get here."Because of travel restrictions, mom says it was stressful not knowing how she would get to her son."We reached out to the Indonesian embassy and just pleaded from a mother's heart and leaned on their compassion," says Schaible. "They bent over backwards to get me my visas."This allowed her to get to her son's bedside.Galvan-Schaible says he is starting to regain feeling in his hand. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - While bars are set to open Friday, it's not going to look much different from restaurants right now, according to those in the industry.10News spoke with Nathan Colonero, the Director of Operations at Sandbox Pizza and The Tipsy Crow, and he said the only change will be businesses without a food license will be able to reopen and bars that serve food don't have to enforce a food order on each tab.Customers will be required to wear masks when they walk in and may only remove their mask once seated.Tables must be spaced at least six feet apart or partitioned.Colonero is hopeful the easing restrictions will continue, "who knows? Maybe three more weeks and no spike and we get a little more back to, the biggest thing for us is to get back to, if people are allowed to be in the venue, maybe at a lower capacity, just not seated."Many San Diego bars with food licenses have been open for the past three weeks and some are feeling the squeeze of the new restrictions."The 0 unemployment is killing businesses right now to get staff back," Colonero said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — U.S. Customs and Border Protection says officers seized more than 43,000 pounds of drugs at California ports of entry in June.Across six ports of entry along California's border with Mexico, CBP says officers stopped attempts to smuggle 34,685 lbs. of marijuana, 7,661 lbs. of methamphetamine, 635 lbs. of cocaine, 166 lbs. of heroin, and 165 lbs. of fentanyl in June. The total street value of the narcotics is more than million.The narcotics were found strapped to individuals' bodies and hidden in areas of vehicles, like gas tanks, trunks, seats, and quarter panels, according to CBP."These are impressive results and no matter what is occurring in the country, CBP officers remain vigilant," said San Diego CBP Director of Field Operations, Pete Flores.
