During several protests across the country, officers used tear gas on protesters.The bill, Prohibiting Law Enforcement Use of Chemical Weapons Act, would ensure agencies of law enforcement do not possess chemical weapons. Weapons that fall under the act must be disposed of within a year of enactment.Leaders argued banning tear gas “is one of the many steps” that need to be taken to “fundamentally restructure the relationship between law enforcement and the communities they are supposed to protect and serve.”“To stop us from protesting the death of a black man who was suffocated by police, law enforcement is using a weapon that restricts our lungs -- during a respiratory pandemic,” said Rep. Ocasio-Cortez in a statement. “It is a horror on top of a horror on top of a horror - and it must end.”“There has been a disproportionate response by law enforcement to the peaceful protests occurring nationwide, often involving excessive force and the use of tear gas. We even saw its indiscriminate use against peaceful protesters outside of the White House to clear the way for Presidents Trump’s photo op. Despite medical professionals warning us about the harmful effects of tear gas, which are only made worse during a respiratory pandemic, law enforcement continues to use it. We need to get tear gas out of the hands of law enforcement and ban its use in the United States – this bill will do that,” Rep. (KGTV) — Some California theme parks have announced temporary closures this month to fight the spread of the novel coronavirus.Disneyland, California Adventure, and Universal Studios have all announced temporarily closing parks to combat the spread of the virus.Disneyland and California Adventure will close on Saturday, March 14, and remain closed through the end of the month. (KGTV) — The 18-year-old girl who pushed her friend off a 60-foot bridge into a Washington state river has been charged with one count of reckless endangerment.Prosecutors filed the charge against Taylor Smith, saying the teen engaged in conduct which created a substantial risk of death and resulted in serious physical injury to Jordan Holgerson," according to ABC News.Reckless endangerment is a gross misdemeanor in Washington state and punishable by up to a year in jail and a maximum fine of ,000.Smith pushed Holgerson off the bridge over the Lewis River at Moulton Falls Regional Park near Vancouver, Wash., on Aug. 7.The fall left Holgerson, 16, with six broken ribs, a punctured lung, and air bubbles in her chest, officials said.Footage showing the fall was captured on cell phone video and soon went viral. A nearby surveillance camera also caught Smith pushing Holgerson over.The teens have given conflicting reports of what led up to the fall.Smith has told authorities that she was trying to help her Holgerson overcome the fear of jumping and that she didn't mean to cause harm. If confirmed, he will be the first Latino to lead the department.The HHS is a -trillion-plus agency with 80,000 employees and oversees several issues including drugs and vaccines, medical research, and health insurance programs.
