SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- When a significant wind gust led to an emergency response at SeaWorld’s Bayside Skyride Monday, San Diego Fire-Rescue technical rescue teams and San Diego Lifeguards were ready. The teams conduct training sessions at least twice a year on the ride, which has gondolas traveling through the air for a view above Mission Bay. Monday night at 7:30 p.m., five gondolas became stuck with 16 people on board, including a toddler. “She was a little cold, because I think she'd been up there for a little bit, so that was my priority,” said firefighter Sean Murphy. Murphy showed 10News what was involved in lowering the 16 gondola passengers down to the ground. “Everyone had a little bit of jitters, but I tried to let everyone know exactly what we were going to do,” Murphy said. The toddler was put in a small harness. Murphy said it helped that the child's dad served time in the military. “He was pretty calm, composed, which was great relief for me, and allowed us to lower those two pretty easily,” said Murphy. It took roughly five hours to rescue everyone. No one was injured.The Bayside Skyride, which first opened in 1967, remained closed Tuesday during an inspection of the ride. 1644

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Video posted to social media went viral this week, reportedly showing San Diego Police officers' violent arrest a 20-year-old man.Trenelle Cannon was arrested on warrants in Chula Vista Tuesday at about 6 p.m., according to his mother. He was booked into jail and charged with carrying a loaded firearm in a public place, robbery, and identity theft, according to SDPD, however more charges may be filed.The video shows several officers above Cannon as he is being arrested. One officer can be seen making a repeated punching motion. Cannon's girlfriend, Shakira Smith, was in the car with him and other friends at the time of the arrest and captured the video."A 12 second video of this arrest was shared on social media without any context or details provided," police said in a news release. Video released later in the day by police shows a man tackling a police officer before more officers get involved. SDPD held a press conference to address the video:Undercover officers had been conducting surveillance of Cannon in the area of 600 E St. in Chula Vista when they requested uniform officers to arrest him, SDPD Chief David Nisleit said during a press conference. Nisleit says Cannon then fled from officers, forcing police to give chase. At some point during the chase, a weapon was recovered where a witness last saw Cannon. Nisleit said Cannon was located once again in the area of 1100 4th Ave., where he got into a car with four others. The vehicle then proceeded to get onto Interstate 5, where officers conducted a traffic stop.During the traffic stop, Nisleit said Cannon tackled an officer to the ground, prompting multiple officers to assist in an arrest. Nisleit said officers feared Cannon had another weapon and used a "combination of physical force and distraction strikes" to restrain him."This is a very important key to note, once restrained and no longer a threat to officers no additional force was used on Cannon," Nisleit said.The family of Cannon held a press conference in response to the incident:Smith, as well as Cannon’s mother spoke at a news conference Thursday afternoon. Smith said she and Cannon were in a car with several friends when they were pulled over. She claims Cannon was pulled out of the car before being thrown to the ground. She then says officers piled on top of him. Smith made no mention of what happened before the couple got into the car, when police say Cannon led them on a chase, allegedly dropping a gun along the way.After screaming at police, Smith says she started recording the arrest. As she was recording, Smith says police told her: “put your phone away, you can’t do that.”The family and others said they wouldn't answer any questions following the news conference. Nisleit said Cannon and the officers involved were not injured, aside from slight abrasions. Internal Affairs detectives was notified of the arrest and will evaluate officers' use of force and whether they followed policy. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Westview High School officials Wednesday scrambled to cover up offensive graffiti painted prominently on campus overnight.A custodian discovered the graffiti over a "W" in the center of campus "defaced with graffiti containing offensive symbols and language," according to Westview Principal Tina Ziegler.The graffiti was described to 10News reporter Steve Fiorina as depicting several swastikas, sexual and crude language, profanities, and obscene drawings.In a letter to parents, Ziegler said campus security and custodians worked quickly to prevent students' exposure to the graffiti: 639

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two people working on scaffolding on the side of a downtown high-rise were rescued Tuesday after their equipment became stuck.The two workers were stuck 42 stories in the air after their equipment failed just before 10 a.m., leaving their mobile scaffolding stuck, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue.Fire crews climbed to the top floor 46 stories up and were lowered down to the trapped pair. Glass on the 43rd floor of the building was then removed and the workers were hoisted into the building. View this post on Instagram SD Fire-Rescue crews are on scene at a building under construction at 14th and Island. SDFD dispatchers received the request for assistance at about 9:50 Tuesday morning. Two construction workers were on a window washing lift when the lift stopped functioning and the workers were not able to move the lift. USAR 2, engines 2 and 4 and trucks 1 and 11 along with medic 10 responded. The technical rescue team went to the roof and set up the rope system. They lowered down to the construction crew outside the 42nd floor and were able to remove a window on the 43rd floor. The 43rd floor window served as the extraction point. The first construction worker was rescued at 10:52 and the second at 11:01 a.m. The firefighters are now in the process of retrieving their rescue equipment. No injuries. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — With the pandemic prompting San Diegans to wear facial coverings, and practice physical distancing and stringent hand hygiene, flu season's start has been slowed.According to the county's Influenza Watch report published Oct. 21, San Diego County has reported 10 flu cases to date this season, compared to 320 cases at this time last year. Last year's season totaled 20,711 flu cases.The county says no influenza-related deaths have been reported so far this season. The CDC says the flu season in the U.S. typically occurs in the fall and winter, with the season peaking in December and February.County health officials say health precautions due to the coronavirus and an increase in the rate of residents receiving flu vaccinations have kept flu numbers low so far."Influenza activity has been very low so far this season in San Diego County. This may in part be due to the social distancing, hand washing, and mask wearing interventions instituted to reduce the transmission of SARS-CoV2, the virus that causes COVID-19. Seasonal influenza vaccinations are being recorded in the San Diego Immunization Registry at a higher rate than at this same point in any previous season, with 637,696 San Diegans immunized through week 42," the county's report said.Week 42 covers case totals up to the week ending Oct. 17.According to the county, 70% of this year's flu cases cover Influenza A, while 30% include Influenza B. 1445
