SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, a Republican whose term ends next month, revealed he is considering running for governor in an interview Thursday with the Los Angeles Times.The race will be tough for any Republican, according to political analyst John Dadian, because registered Democrats far outnumber Republicans in California. Those registered with no party preference also outnumber Republicans. “The uphill is he’d have to pull in all the people that are neither democrat or republican, but it’s certainly possible," Dadian said.According to Dadian, many political pundits consider Faulconer to be the most viable Republican in a general election, citing his record as a moderate mayor who frequently cross the aisle to work with Democrats on issues such as climate change. Faulconer's PAC raised more than 0,000 in the first half of the year, with the biggest donations coming from outside San Diego, which Dadian says is another indication of Faulconer's viability.Dadian says he expects Faulconer to spend much of his time traveling the state once he leaves office to build his profile and introduce himself to voters away from his home base. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police are investigating an alleged attack on three women in hijabs in Little Italy as a possible hate crime. The incident happened around 12:45 p.m. Sunday on Columbia Street near Beech.Three women in hijabs were walking under scaffolding when a man approached from the other direction. Despite one woman moving to give him room, witnesses say 50-year-old Kyle Allen lunged his shoulder into one of them. "Fists started flying, and it was his fists. He started swinging at the women, trying to hit the woman that he almost knocked down, but he ended up hitting one of the other women," said a witness named Amy, who called 911 during the altercation. A hijab is a headscarf worn by some Muslim women. Amy, who asked us not to use her last name, said she also saw Allen rip off one of the women's hijabs from her face. "As I got closer I heard him calling her names and telling them to go back to where they came from," Amy said. Cell phone video shot after the incident showed Allen, going back and forth with bystanders. He ultimately walked to his high rise apartment around the corner. Witnesses followed him and pointed police in his direction.A San Diego Police spokesman told 10News that Allen greeted officers at his unit with a handgun that had a silencer. He was arrested without incident on firearms, battery, and criminal threat charges. Calls and texts to Allen's phone were not immediately returned. The incident happened Sunday about 4:30 p.m. as the girl’s mother was taking her daughter for a walk in her wagon on Savannah Street at Buenos Avenue, police said. The area is residential and two blocks away from busy Morena Boulevard. A man parked his sedan but left the engine running, then approached the mother and child from behind, according to investigators. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Restaurant workers across San Diego County returned to work Friday, after a Superior Court judge ruled restaurants could serve on-site.Martin Cardenas was right back on the job Friday morning, prepping Chula Vista's El Cruce 241 for what he hoped was a sizable lunch crowd.“You have to understand, it is around the holidays, we're social distancing, we're sanitizing everything, we're doing everything in our capacity to stay safe,” he said.But the governor's office says those precautions are still not enough, with ICU capacity at 0% in Southern California due to the coronavirus spread.In early December, the state reduced county restaurants to takeout only, eliminating thousands of jobs. Frederick Von Kahl's family sued Clark Construction and other defendants for negligence, alleging they created a dangerous workplace at a San Ysidro job site which reportedly caused a valve to strike Kahl in his chest.Friday afternoon, Kahl family attorney Benjamin Bunn said that the case just recently moved into a settlement agreement. He said that Kahl had been married for 40 years.The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) website revealed that it issued violations and a ,260 fine. In another negligence case, a worker sued Clark Construction Group and other defendants over a 2010 accident at the San Diego Marriot & Marina Hotel, claiming that a large piece of concrete dropped through a roof and struck a worker's body and right arm.
