Northern and eastern parts of Northeast China would see moderate to heavy snow during the three days.
URUMQI, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Internet services were resumed in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Friday, 10 months after a riot in Urumqi on July 5, the regional government said.In a document released by its press office, Xinjiang's regional government said Internet services were "fully resumed" in line with the region's needs for maintaining stability and boosting social and economic development. The move was also aimed at meeting the Xinjiang residents' requests for information, it said.Xinjiang has 7 million Internet users. The government expressed appreciation for the netizens' understanding and support when Internet connection, international long-distance calls and mobile phone text messages were cut in some areas of Xinjiang after the July 5 riot.Disruption of communication was aimed at cracking down on the riot quickly and prevent violence from happening again, as the riot was believed to have been orchestrated by separatists via the Internet, text message and long-distance telephone calls.Resumption of Internet services in Xinjiang has been a gradual process. Access to two leading news websites, xinhuanet.com and people.com.cn, was restored in December, followed by access to another two portal websites, sina.com.cn and sohu.com, on Jan. 10.Email services were resumed in March. International long-distance calls and mobile texting services have also been resumed gradually.
BAGHDAD, June 1 (Xinhua) -- The ongoing Shanghai Expo is a very good platform for Iraq and China to communicate with each other, some Iraqis said on Tuesday, adding the war-torn country needs China's successful experiences for rebuilding. The Iraqis made the remarks when the Iraq Pavilion opened Tuesday at the Shanghai World Expo, one month into the global event. The country is the last of the 246 participants to open its pavilion."After decades of isolation under circumstances of sanctions and wars, I believe my country is in acute need for such an event (Expo)," Adel Hameed, 35, a teacher in Baghdad western district of Mansour told Xinhua."As a developing nation, Iraq found Shanghai a great place to demonstrate the latest technologies that we need to rebuild our country," said Hameed, who disclosed that he sometimes follows the latest news about the Shanghai Expo from Internet at home.Asked what makes him so interested in following the Expo news, he smiled and said "to me Baghdad is the city with glorious past and promising future. It is the gem of the east, the capital of the great al-Rasheed caliph and the city of thousand and one nights, therefore, it is qualified to look forward for better future and Shanghai is a great place to look at and learn."He recalled the tragedy Iraq suffered in the past years, but was confident for a bright future in the city he lives in."Yes, I say we are far behind especially by the devastation of the U.S.-led invasion in 2003, and my nation has little chance to rise nowadays, but you will see days are coming and we will rise but it needs time," Hameed said. Some local people believed the Expo is an opportunity for Iraqis to know what is happening in China.Maher Abbas, a 48-year old lawyer told Xinhua that Expo is a great chance for Iraqis to know the course of development in China which has made it a successful example."I see China as a great example, they have made spectacular successes in all areas of development. As a developing country, we need China to share us its experience," Abbas said."I also believe that the Shanghai World Expo is a great platform for communication among the world nations, that could open to the world perfect windows for mutual understanding," the man said, complaining that he has few media sources to know about the event as the political and security troubles of Iraq are prevailing the local media. But the concept of such exhibition excited him.
MINSK, March 25 (Xinhua) -- Under new circumstances, bilateral relations between China and Belarus are bestowed with great opportunities and have broad prospects, said visiting Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping in a meeting with Belarusian Prime Minister Sergei Sidorsky here on Thursday."Developing good relationship with Belarus is a policy that China highly values and will never change, regardless of the fluctuation of international and regional situations," said Xi.China is willing to further deepen and broaden bilateral ties with Belarus, said Xi. BEIJING, April 27 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Commerce Tuesday made a cautious prediction for the outlook of the nation's foreign trade for the rest of the year amid the fragile global economic recovery. The rebound of China's overseas shipments in the first quarter can largely be attributed to the low comparison base of the same period last year, the commerce ministry report said. Moreover, uncertainty in the global market remains as high unemployment in European Union nations and low capacity-utilization in the United States may dampen consumption and investment, the report said.China is facing deteriorating trade conditions as trade protectionism is on the rise, the report added.China suffered 19 trade-remedy investigations in the first quarter, up 93.5 percent over the same time last year. The investigations, targeting Chinese products, involved trade worth 1.19 billion U.S. dollars, the report said. The report also said higher costs may squeeze domestic enterprises' profits as a result of raw material price hikes and rising labor costs.China's exports increased 28.7 percent year on year in the first quarter of 2010 after dipping 16 percent last year amid the global economic downturn, customs data showed.
