OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) -- A medical examiner’s report gives new details about an Oceanside plane crash in January. According to the report, 58-year-old Raymond Petty Jr. had cocaine and marijuana in his system at the time of the crash. Initial reports indicated that Petty was the pilot, but the Oceanside Police Department said it was possible to fly the plane from either seat. The plane crashed into a hillside off State Route 76 near Canyon Drive in late January. Heavy fog in the area blanketed the crash site, preventing it from being spotted for several hours. OAKLAND, Calif. — A bust of Breonna Taylor was vandalized in Oakland, California.The Oakland Police Department is investigating after large pieces of the statue were found broken off sometime over the weekend, KGO and KTVU report.The sculpture was made by artist Lee Carson to honor the 26-year-old EMT who was shot and killed in her apartment by Louisville police officers in March. The deaths of Taylor, George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery prompted countless people across the country to take to the streets over the summer to protest police violence against people of color.Carson told KTVU that he hoped the piece would energize the Black Lives Matter movement, which seeks to eradicate white supremacy and intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities.Carson told KGO that the vandalism felt like an attack on Taylor and those fighting against racial injustice.The statue is made of clay, concrete, wood and foam, and was reportedly installed in the downtown area this month. Along with a bust of Taylor, it includes the words “say her name Breonna Taylor,” which has become a rallying cry.Carson told KGO that he intends to repair the statue as soon as possible and he may cast it in bronze this time. 1217

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - A 16-year-old girl told Oceanside Police a man, possibly homeless, tried to kidnap her Thursday morning as she walked to El Camino High School. The girl was walking east on Mesa Drive near Vanilla Way at 7:20 a.m. and passed the man heading the opposite direction. After she walked by, the man turned and grabbed her in a bear hug, police said. The man struggled with the girl, who was able to break free when he fell to the ground, according to investigators. The girl arrived at school and notified security about the incident. Oceanside Police units and a drone were deployed to find the man but were not successful. The girl described the man as dirty or "possibly homeless" according to police, white, in his 50s, 5’9 inches tall, and very thin. He was wearing a tan pullover sweatshirt with a zipper and baggy black jeans. Police said the man may be bald on top of his head with short light brown hair on the sides. He also had a scab on the right side of his neck, the girl reported. Oceanside officers are asking anyone with information to call the department’s Family Protection Unit at 760-435-4690. 1144
