BEIJING, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- China's 2010 economic growth is estimated to reach about 10 percent, according to central bank governor Zhou Xiaochuan.In a speech published Tuesday by the People's Bank of China on its website, Zhou said he was not quite confident that the nation's economy has returned to normal, as external conditions continue exerting an important impact on China's economic recovery. ' Zhou stressed that China should be prudent in its macroeconomic policies and needs to conduct counter-cyclical adjustments against "over-expansion."He also reiterated that the government would promote a market-oriented reform of the interest rate regime in a gradual and unwavering way.Zhou first delivered his speech on Dec. 15 when policymakers were intensifying their efforts to curb property prices and dampen inflation, as the nation's consumer price index hit a 28-month high of 5.1 percent in November.

WUHAN, Nov.15 (Xinhua) -- Russia and India Monday reiterated their readiness to coordinate with China as it prepares for the third BRIC Summit and related events in 2011.Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Indian Minister of External Affairs SM Krishna made the statements when they met with Yang Jiechi, Chinese Foreign Minister, on Monday.The ministers expressed their determination to work toward strengthening cooperation within the BRIC group, which was acquiring growing importance.During the meeting, Yang said the three countries could cooperate more in safeguarding security in the Asia-Pacific region.Yang said they should insist on common security, resolve disputes in a peaceful way and work together on non-traditional threats to make further efforts on regional security cooperation.The foreign ministers agreed to push forward trilateral practical cooperation and decided the next trilateral foreign ministers' meeting would be held in Russia in 2011."BRIC" is an acronym for Brazil, Russia, India and China.In recent years, the four nations have strengthened dialogue and cooperation, and held frequent exchanges of views on major issues in the international economic and development fields.During the second BRIC Summit in Brazil this year, Chinese President Hu Jintao announced the next BRIC Summit would be held in China in 2011.

  

SANTIAGO, Chile, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- Chilean President Sebastian Pinera and visiting Chinese State Councilor Liu Yandong met here Wednesday to discuss the development of relations between their two countries since the establishment of diplomatic ties 40 years ago.Pinera said that Chile was the first South American country to establish diplomatic relations with China. In this endeavor, the two countries need to keep exploring new ways and channels of cooperation, in order to promote China-Chile cultural exchange and cooperation to a higher level.And thirdly, efforts should be made to further increase bilateral educational exchange and cooperation to promote China-Chile friendship.On the same day, Liu also met with the Chilean Education Minister Joaquin Lavin and Director of Chilean National Science and Technology Commission Jose Aguirela, exchanging views with them on strengthening cooperation in the fields of education and science and technology between China and Chile.Liu also attended a cerenomy for signing documents on bilateral educational and scientific-technological cooperation.
