COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Bodycam video released by Colorado Springs police Thursday shows 19-year-old De'Von Bailey running from officers when he was fatally shot earlier this month.Police claim Bailey and another man were suspects in a robbery that happened minutes earlier Aug. 3 and that Bailey had a weapon. Video showed police grabbing something from between Bailey's legs, but the footage does not clearly show what it was. Authorities have said officers recovered a weapon at the scene.The bodycam video shows Bailey and the other man standing in the street in front of police with their hands up. The officers, Sgt. Alan Van't Land and officer Blake Evenson, told Bailey and the other man that they had gotten a report of "two people, similar descriptions, possibly having a gun."One officer told the two of them to not reach for their waist and that they would check to make sure they didn't have a weapon. As another officer walked up behind Bailey, the teen took off running to his right. The officer with the bodycam chased Bailey and pulled out his weapon, yelling, "Hands up! Hands up!" The officers then fired at least eights shots at Bailey, striking him in the lower back.Bailey fell to the ground and an officer again yelled, "Hands up! Hands up!" Bailey lifted one hand and then fell back to the ground. The officers immediately called for a medical kit and began tending to Bailey's wound. As the officers searched Bailey's body, they found "something between his legs," Evenson said on the video. DETROIT — The Detroit City Council has canceled a stunt involving the car from the movie "Smokey and the Bandit" that was planned for an upcoming classic car show show because of the car's Confederate flag license plate.The high-flying jump involving the 1977 Pontiac Trans Am was to take place during the Detroit Autorama in early March.The move comes less than two years after the Autorama advertised a stunt at its 2017 show involving the General Lee from the "Dukes of Hazard" — the famous 1969 orange Dodge Charger emblazoned with a Confederate flag on its roof. The Autorama promised city council that the car involved would not include a Confederate flag, but did not keep its promise.This year's Autorama is the first show since the death of Burt Reynolds, who starred in "Smokey and the Bandit" and drove the Trans Am in the movie.The Detroit Autorama is a showcase for classic cars that's taken place in the city since 1953. 946

Despite it being an "off year" for federal elections, a grass roots effort to register new voters netted 400,000 citizens to register to vote last week. According to organizers of the effort, last Tuesday's effort shattered a record for it being an off year by nearly three times. The drive included more than 4,000 groups nationwide, which used partners such as Facebook, the United Way and the League of Women Voters to assist. Tom Hanks, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Leann Rimes, Michelle Obama and Newt Gingrich were among those who encouraged people to register vote."We are encouraged by the level of engagement this local election year," said Lindsay Torrico, United Way Senior Director of Policy and Advocacy and National Voter Registration Day Steering Committee member.
