CLEVELAND — The morning of Nov. 23 started out like any other for Amanda Zupancic. She’s a special education teacher in Cleveland. Around 11 a.m. that morning, in what would be her 3rd period class, she was in session with a middle school student and his mom on Zoom in the upstairs office of her west Cleveland home.She was suddenly interrupted with a loud noise.“I heard a glass-shattering crash downstairs,” she said. “I was like, 'hold on, I think someone is breaking into my house, just joking.' I didn’t think anyone would be breaking into my house in the middle of the day,” she said.But that is exactly what was happening.“There was a man walking though my baby gate with a knife in his hand walking upstairs,” said Zupancic. “He started threatening me, yelling at me, calling me names. He grabbed me upstairs into my bedroom.”The man began rummaging through her things, all the while Zupancic’s student and his family were still on that Zoom call listening from Lake County.In the 911 call, the student’s dad tried to explain the situation. “The teacher that teaches my son, somebody broke into her house we saw it on the Zoom,” said the student’s dad to a Lake County dispatcher.As the robber frantically searched for valuables, the dad gave as much detail to the dispatcher as he could.“I guess she heard the man say, ‘Get on the floor. I’m going to cut your f-ing throat,’” he told the dispatcher.Zupancic told the man he could have her car keys but they were downstairs. He agreed she could go and get them. She said, instead of getting the keys, she let her two dogs out.“When I reached for my keys, instead I opened the gate and I have a German shepherd and a Great Dane-boxer mix. So the German Shepherd stood between myself and this guy, and the Great Dane Boxer mix went at him,” she said.It gave her enough time to think.“I just grabbed a pair of scissors and I chased him to the front door,” she said.She continued to chase him down her street.“I started chasing him with this pair of scissors, in my house shoes, down the street, yelling 'help me, help me, this guy robbed me,'” she said.Zupancic said a local contractor working on a house in her neighborhood saw the encounter and tackled the man to the ground and detained him until Cleveland police arrived.When they got there, they arrested Charles Derosett.Derosett is charged with aggravated robbery and felonious assault as well as other charges. He is a convicted felon, previously serving time behind bars for aggravated robbery.Zupancic is still shaken up. COOK COUNTY, Illinois (AP) — A Michigan woman has been charged with murder in the deaths of her newborn twin sons more than 17 years after their bodies were found near Chicago.Authorities said Saturday that 41-year-old Antoinette Briley of Holland, Michigan, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of her sons.The boys’ bodies were discovered on June 6, 2003, by a waste management employee who was emptying trash bins in Cook County, Illinois. Officers say the worker spotted the bodies in the front lift bucket.“A subsequent autopsy determined the victims were born alive and died of asphyxiation and the deaths were ruled homicides,” said Leo Schmitz, Chief of Public Safety at the Cook County Sheriff's Office, during a press conference.Using DNA technology, detectives eventually identified Briley as the victims’ potential birth mother.As part of their investigation, Schmitz says detectives traveled to Michigan and “obtained discarded items with Briley’s DNA,” which was then matched to the DNA of the newborn victims.On Thursday, officers say they learned Briley was in the Cook County area and took her into custody after a traffic stop in Oaklawn, Illinois. The suspect was transported to the sheriff’s headquarters, where Schmitz says she admitted to the “birth, death, and disposal” of the infants. 1351

Cottonwood, Arizona police have arrested a 32-year-old woman in what they call, "One of the worst cases of neglect some of the officers involved have ever seen."Sarah Easterday-Shortridge faces several charges in connection with the crime. On the morning of March 10, the Verde Valley Regional SWAT team served a search warrant at a home.Officers were made aware of the residence after a person received medical treatment from being pistol-whipped by a man staying at the home the night before. Police say officers found Easterday-Shortridge's three children, all under the age of five, living in "deplorable conditions." The abandoned home reportedly had feces, trash, debris, broken glass, and rotting food throughout. Officers described the residence as a "flop-house" for drug users.The children were transported to a medical center where they received treatment and hygiene. Police say the kids were suffering from lice, open sores, scabies, bumps, and were covered in feces. The Department of Child Safety was called to the scene and the children were removed from Easterday-Shortridge’s custody, police said. She has been charged with several felonies including child abuse, endangerment, neglect or abuse of a minor and possession of drug paraphernalia.   1326

(KGTV) -- A man was hospitalized late Monday night after police say he was stabbed while on an MTS bus.According to Coronado police, the stabbing took place along State Route 75 and Leyte Road around 11:30 p.m.Passengers on the bus say it began when two men got into an argument.Witnesses say the victim was stabbed six times.The victim was taken to UCSD Medical Center, and his current condition is unclear.Police say one person is in custody. 469

CLAY COUNTY, Mo. — A man is in custody after leading multiple law enforcement agencies on a chase while riding an ATV naked. KCPD told Scripps station KSHB in Kansas City that Shoal Creek patrol officers were sent out on a call involving a naked man driving a yellow ATV through yards just after 2:15 p.m.When they located him, they tried to pull him over but he refused to stop and fled through a field.He eventually made his way onto I-435 and began driving fast going south in the northbound lanes.He got off I-435 at 210 Highway, where he exited onto Searcy Creek Parkway and drove back east toward train tracks south of 210 Highway.As the suspect approached the old Sam's Town Casino, police said he was thrown from the ATV after he struck two railway junction boxes.He got up and tried to run from officers, but was taken into custody and to a local hospital for treatment.The chase ended just before 3:45 p.m.The police activity you’ve been seeing along 152 Hwy, I-435 and now 210 Hwy is all because of a naked man riding a yellow ATV who refused to stop for police. ??
