NEW YORK (AP) — Uber shares sunk even further after its disappointing stock market debut as doubts lingered over the company's ability to turn a profit and trade tensions dragged down the overall market.The ride-hailing giant's stock fell 10% and hovered around Monday afternoon on Uber's first full day of trading.The mounting losses followed Uber's disappointing initial public offering. When two boys call girls dumb, the girls initially become discouraged, but then the girls challenge the boys to slime making competition. The girls use their creativity and knowledge to prevail. White hopes her book inspires other children.“The book was about bullying, so if someone in your school or on the street is bullying you, you shouldn’t really care about it because you have your family, cousins, and friends that care about you," White said.White's mother Kina knew the book would be a bestseller with family and friends but said she didn't expect all the praise they've received from strangers. NEW YORK (AP) — Police have made an arrest in a mystery that's been stopping New Yorkers in their tracks for months: a wave of subway trains grinding to a halt because someone pulled the emergency brake.Isaiah Thompson, 23, of Brooklyn, was arrested late Thursday after police publicized video of a man they say pulled the emergency brake on a train in Manhattan during the Tuesday evening rush hour.Thompson was awaiting arraignment Friday on charges related to the Tuesday incident. He's also accused of committing a lewd act in the subway.Police are investigating whether he's behind about 40 other brake-pulling incidents that have cascaded into hundreds of delayed trains — and thousands of frustrated commuters — since February. Police on Thursday released images and video of a man they say rode on the outside of a car for several stops before entering the car and pulling its emergency brake and fleeing.Chief Edward Delatorre, of the NYPD's transit division, said police believe Thompson is responsible for "several incidents where he endangered subway riders (and) disrupted passenger train service."Thompson's record includes more than a dozen arrests, mostly for subway-related incidents. NEW YORK — David Dinkins, the first Black mayor of New York City, died Monday at the age of 93.Dinkins was elected in 1989 and served as mayor from 1990 to 1993, making him the first and only Black man to serve as the city's mayor.He was born in 1927 in Trenton, New Jersey. He was drafted, served as a Marine and later graduated from Howard University and Brooklyn Law School. He served in the state assembly before later becoming president of the board of elections, a city clerk and Manhattan borough president.Dinkins defeated longtime incumbent Mayor Ed Koch in the Democratic primary in 1989 and later beat Rudy Giuliani on his path to City Hall.In his inaugural address, he vowed to be "mayor of all the people of New York" and declared, "we are all foot soldiers on the march to freedom."Dinkins was known for his reserved public demeanor and civility.He was an American voice in favor of anti-apartheid sanctions, and his policies as mayor reflected his support for South Africa.He also created the office of Special Commissioner of Investigations for schools, built a system of after hour youth centers called Beacon Schools, and worked to create an all civilian police complaint review board.According to a city biography, Dinkins was sharply criticized for his handling of racial strife in Crown Heights, a boycott of Korean Grocers in Brooklyn and civil unrest in Washington Heights.
