(AP) — The Mormon church is scaling back the Sunday time commitment expected of its members from three hours to two.Russell M. Nelson, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, announced the change Saturday at the faith's twice-yearly conference. He says the new "home-centered church" strategy reflects the faith's increasingly global membership where not all Latter-day Saints live close to a chapel or even have a chapel.Since 1980, church members have been expected to attend a one-hour sacrament worship service each Sunday, followed by two hours of meetings such as Sunday school and men's and women's groups.RELATED: Latter-day Saints dropping the 'Mormon' monikerUnder the schedule change, which takes effect in January, members will continue attending the one-hour Sunday service but then have only one additional hour of meetings.Quentin L. At the corner of Peabody Drive and Hardy Cash Drive in Hampton, Virginia you'll find a group of determined kids."We are raising money for single mothers that are struggling. They have to do so much on their own," said 11-year-old Cartier Carey.Cartier is the leader of the "Carti Pack" and CEO of his lemonade stand, one unlike any other."We sell lemonade, chips, candy - all types of stuff that people want, and it's not expensive," he said.Each dollar spent towards a cup of the summertime drink and goodies on the side goes towards buying diapers for local families in need."The diapers are for mothers or anyone that has babies," Cartier said.It's an unusual business model, but one that's working."There's a shortage of Pampers and wipes in the stores because of the pandemic, so this couldn't have come at a better time," said Anthony Carey, Cartier's dad.A rising sixth-grader like Cartier and his friends could be out playing sports or riding bikes, but instead, they're helping single mothers in the community."There are a lot of grown-ups out there not doing what we're doing," Cartier said."As a parent, it makes me feel spectacular," Anthony said.This lemonade stand isn't a first for Cartier. (AP) -- Former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke has been banned from Twitter for breaking the social media platform's site's rules.The company said Friday that Duke's account "has been permanently suspended for repeated violations of the Twitter Rules on hateful conduct."It didn't specify what exactly Duke posted that triggered the ban, but it's policy on hateful conduct prohibits promoting violence against people based on religious affiliation, race and ethnic origin.Twitter said the ban was in line with its recently updated policy aimed at cutting down on harmful links. 584
