BEIJING, April 8 (Xinhua) -- China expressed its concerns Thursday about a Chinese coal ship that ran aground off the eastern coast of Australia.Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jiang Yu told a regular press briefing China is paying close attention to the incident and has taken immediate action to deal with it.China is concerned an oil spill may pollute Australia's Great Barrier Reef, Jiang said, adding that the related shipping company and Australian authorities should enhance cooperation to appropriately address the issue.Jiang said China's embassy in Australia contacted local authorities and urged them to ensure the crew's safety.Australia has taken rescue measures in time, she said, noting that the body of the ship has been kept stable and the crew are safe.The Chinese-owned, 230m-long bulk coal carrier Shen Neng 1 ran aground about 70 km east of Great Keppel Island shortly after 05:00 p.m. local time on Saturday. About two tonnes of fuel oil have spilled, creating a slick about 3 km long and 100 meters wide.The vessel, carrying 950 tonnes of heavy fuel oil and 65,000 tonnes of coal, was bound for China.

HAIKOU, April 25 (Xinhua) -- China's fishery administration said on Sunday it had started regular patrols of the South China Sea, sending two vessels to take over from two others currently escorting Chinese fishing boats in the area."China Yuzheng 301 and 302 take over from China Yuzheng 311 and 202, which have been patrolling the sea area of Nansha Islands since April 1," said Wu Zhuang, director of Administration of Fishery and Fishing Harbor Supervision for South China Sea under the Ministry of Agriculture.He said the patrol ships were sent to escort Chinese fishing boats in the South China Sea and reinforce China's fishing rights of the waters around Nansha Islands.The two ships set sail from Sanya, a coastal city in China's Southernmost Island Province of Hainan, on Sunday.China's patrol vessels escort the country's fishing boats and help treat fishermen who fall ill, Wu said. BEIJING, May 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Wednesday called for more efforts to cut emissions and conserve energy to meet the country's target set by the 11th Five-Year Plan.According to the plan laid out in 2006, China will cut its per unit GDP energy consumption by 20 percent compared with 2005 levels by the end of 2010.The task of fulfilling the goal was still tough , Wen said at a State Council meeting, adding that this year would be particularly difficult as the first quarter had already seen rising energy consumption per unit of gross domestic product (GDP) in the major industrial sectors.In the first three months, six major industries, including steel, power and non-ferrous, saw a 3.2 percent growth in energy consumption per unit of GDP, Wen said.  Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao (C) addresses a State Council meeting of conserving energy and cutting emissions in Beijing, China, on May 5, 2010. SHENZHEN, May 22 (Xinhua) -- Preliminary investigation shows that factors including failed romance, unrestrained gambling could be the reasons behind suicide of a Foxconn Technology Group employee Friday, said police authorities in south China's Shenzhen City.Nan Gang, 21, climbed to the top of a factory building in Foxconn's industrial complex in Longhua Township and fell to his death at 4:37 a.m., said Huang Jianwei, a spokesman of the Bao'an Police Station, of the Shenzhen Public Security Bureau.Nan's suspected suicide was the 10th of the kind ever happening at the Foxconn's Shenzhen plant since the beginning of the year.Police said they learned from investigations that Nan Gang's parents were divorced and Nan was the only child of the family. Nan's ex-girlfriend got married this year in February, and his new girlfriend also deserted him early this month.Nan was said to be ill tempered and fond of gambling, and was thus in deep debts before his death.According to the police, not long ago, Nan had fights with his co-workers, so he employed others to beat the co-workers, but was later blackmailed by the same group of people.Nan allegedly had said he would take revenge and even showed his intent to commit suicide before he fell off the building Friday.Police have already captured the suspects for blackmailing Nan pending further investigation.Shenzhen-based Foxconn's company profile on its website says it's the world's top electronics manufacturer with more than 600,000 employees and ranked 109 among the Fortune 500 companies in 2009. It is linked to Taiwan electronics giant Hon Hai Group.
