BEIJING, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- China's railways carried 75.05 million passengers between Jan. 11-27, or in the first 17 days of the 40-day Spring Festival travel rush.     The figure represents a 17 percent increase from a year earlier, the Ministry of Railways (MOR) said Wednesday.     The ministry has ordered to add more transport capacity to provinces and municipalities including Sichuan, Chongqing, and Jiangxi to brace for the post-holiday traffic rush. The regions are homes to the largest number of migrant rural workers.     Hundreds of millions of Chinese went home for family gatherings in the lunar new year holiday, the most important traditional one in China, creating the world's largest population migration.     In addition, 114.7 million passengers have traveled by road between Jan. 25-28, up 5.4 percent from the same period last year. Short trips account for 80 percent of the total in the first four days of the seven-day Spring Festival holiday.

DESTROYER WUHAN, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese naval fleet sailed into the Strait of Malacca on Monday after its departure from China's southernmost island province of Hainan on an escort mission against piracy off Somalia Friday afternoon.     The fleet sailed into Singapore Strait Monday morning after over 20 hours' voyage from the South China Sea and arrived at the Strait of Malacca. It is expected to reach the Indian Ocean Tuesday.     The convoy, which includes two of China's most sophisticated naval destroyers, DDG-169 Wuhan and DDG-171 Haikou, and a supply ship Weishanhu, is heading for the Gulf of Aden to join a multinational patrol in one of the world's busiest sea lanes where surging piracy endangers international shipping. Statistics showed that some 1,265 Chinese commercial vessels had passed through the gulf so far this year and seven had been attacked.     The UN Security Council has adopted four resolutions calling on all countries and regions to help patrol the gulf and waters off Somalia since June. BEIJING, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- Chen Jian, Chinese vice Commerce Minister said here on Saturday that the country would provide better development conditions for foreign multinational corporations (MNCs).     "China would ramp up efforts to create better legal protection, policy support, market environment and growth opportunities for them," Chen said at the 2nd International CEO Roundtable of Chinese and Foreign MNCs.     He said global investors' confidence would not recover in a short period of time amid the financial turmoil and predicted the combined foreign direct investment (FDI) globally could possibly decrease by 10 to 30 percent.     Figures revealed that FDI in China expanded by 35.06 percent in the first 10 months year on year to 81.1 billion U.S. dollars.     However, FDI in China stood at 6.72 billion U.S. dollars last month, down by 2.02 percent year on year. This was the first time that China saw negative FDI growth this year.     Chen added that although the current financial turmoil would brought some challenges to Chinese economy, China still boasts the potential of stable and relatively fast economic growth
