SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A burglary victim is hoping doorbell camera video will help track down some thieves who hunt down garage remotes before raiding the garage. Ring video shows a man on his stomach, around 2 a.m. Saturday, in Curtis Both's driveway off Morena Boulevard. In his hand is Both's garage door opener."My car was ransacked. The remote was in the center console," said Both.The man in the video likely pushed the button for the garage, just slightly. "He wanted to peer in to see what was there," said Both.Moments later, the garage door is heard opening. The man then walks in, before eventually leaving. About two hours later, that man is back with a friend. A camera mounted inside the garage shows them collecting items from the garage."Horrible. A complete violation," said Both.Airsoft gear, ski equipment, power tools, a pricey road bike were among the items that would vanish.A week earlier, about a mile away, a man with a similar backpack and high socks was recorded putting down the backpack and getting on his knees to shine a flashlight at a garage door. Soon after, he's seen heading across the street. That light inside Matt Friend's SUV comes on. Tucked in the door panel is the garage remote. Eventually, Friend's garage door open is seen opening."We were sleeping inside, with two sons in the other room, two- and three-year-old boys and my wife is pregnant so it's disheartening to think somebody is on our premise without us knowing," said Friend.The thief would get away with several items, including friend's ,000 Intense mountain bike."Some of the violation feels like they're just coming to our neighborhood and treating it like a department store, and they have no fear," said Both.Both victims say they almost always lock their car doors and aren't sure how the thief broke into their vehicles. 1840

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A 3-year-old girl taken by her father from a UC San Diego facility Tuesday was found safe in downtown San Diego.According to the California Highway Patrol, Lael “Indie” Henry was taken from the Early Childhood Education Center at UC San Diego by her father, 30-year-old Earl Jeree Henry Jr, just before 2 p.m Tuesday. The CHP issued an endangered missing advisory for an at-risk missing 3-year-old shortly after the alleged abduction. Authorities told 10News the girl's father was in violation of a restraining order.Police put out an alert for Henry's black 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander SUV, and a witness reported the vehicle to police after he saw it parked illegally downtown near the Balboa Theatre on Fourth Avenue.10News learned the girl's father was taken into custody, but details on when and where the child and her father were located were not released. 888

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Del Cerro woman had a rare - and timely - encounter outside a Halloween display on her morning walk Tuesday. Liz Harley and her friend Terry Finstad spotted an owl in the middle of the street, transfixed by a light show of bats on the side of a home. “It was just so cool,” Harley told 10News. Harley and Finstad have been walking together for 25 years, since their children were small. Now they’re both grandmothers and keep their tradition alive. During their walks, the two have seen all kinds of wildlife: coyotes, rabbits, skunks, raccoons. At first, Harley thought the owl was a cat, but then she noticed its head spinning. “We just watched it,” she said. “We wondered, what is it doing?” The owl spent several minutes absorbed by the flying bats, oblivious to Harley’s golden retriever. Harley and Finstad walked on, and when they passed through the area again, the owl was gone, leaving only feathers behind. “Kind of reminded me of Harry Potter,” Harley said. Harley, who usually goes to the gym on Tuesdays, is glad she chose to stay close to home. “I was rewarded for walking this morning.” 1130

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A couple of thieves hosted an unintentional comedy act after surveillance cameras captured them making a huge mess inside a Normal Heights salon. Salon Bordeaux is reaching a big milestone."We are getting ready to celebrate our 14th anniversary here on Adams Avenue," salon co-owner, Laura Price said. But Price in not quite ready to celebrate. "Somebody threw a rock through a window and climbed through," Price said. Just before 2:30 a.m. Friday, their surveillance cameras caught two people attempting a smash-and-grab at the salon. One of the men threw a rock through the side window and climbed through. The two headed straight to the counter. They pried open the cash drawer with a crowbar and took off. But not before one of them tripped over and broke the side table. He then realized he forgot his crowbar, so he climbed back in to get it, and hurried off.But Price said the joke's on them. "Fortunately, we do not keep any cash in the salon overnight, so they didn't get much, except for hopefully some injury from the glass," Price joked. This isn't their first break-in. Almost four years ago to the day, Salon Bordeaux was one of 15 small businesses in Normal Heights to be a victim of burglary. Back then, criminals got away with ,000, their client appointment book, and computer."We learned a lot from the first incident, and this time we were ready," Price said. Since then, they installed multiple security cameras. They never leave cash overnight and instilled new safety practices. So this time, the clumsy thieves made off with nothing. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A battle is brewing between the San Diego bay cruise companies over which companies can start up again and which ones cannot. Some companies are cleared to resume dinner cruises next weekend, while others are still stuck at the docks. On Hornblower Cruises & Events’ Facebook page, the announcement is up that it's reopening this upcoming weekend. Wednesday, the fleet was docked but starting Saturday, the company is offering dining cruises through the bay. “At the moment, we have not been permitted to leave the dock,” said Carole Noska, owner of Charter Services. She told 10News that her boat and other charters still can't operate bay tours. County guidelines only permit recreational boating, not charters, and the recreational sailing is only for passengers within the same household. The County reports that dining cruises, though, are fine to set sail so long as they operate within the County's dine-in guidelines for restaurants.“We probably lost ,000 to ,000 over Memorial weekend after having already been at the dock for the last two months since COVID started," Noska told 10News and added, “Those of us in the legal charter community the credentialed vessels for charter would just ask that the County and the Port and the State level the playing field.”In a press release, Hornblower Cruises & Events provided an extensive list of safety measures its implementing, including social distancing aboard, and facial covering requirements. The company sent 10News the following statement on Wednesday."In accordance with the latest Stage 2 Variance which now permits dine-in restaurants to operate, we are thrilled to be able to offer a limited choice of seated dining cruises starting this weekend.
