The Seattle City Council unanimously approved a law on Tuesday that will raise the minimum pay for Uber and Lyft drivers. In a statement on the Seattle mayor's website, Mayor Jenny Durkan celebrated the city council passing her Fare Share Plan that would make ride-hailing companies pay their drivers the minimum hourly wage, which will go into effect Jan. 1, 2021."The pandemic has exposed the fault lines in our systems of worker protections, leaving many front line workers like gig workers without a safety net," Mayor Durkan said. "It is more important than ever that we add to the economic resilience of our community of drivers. The Fare Share plan guarantees that drivers will receive fair pay and can provide for themselves and their families."The ordinance guarantees drivers will earn at least The US House of Representatives will vote on whether to legalize marijuana across the country in September. This would be the first time a chamber of Congress has ever voted on removing marijuana from the Controlled Substances Act.Cannabis was included as what is called a Schedule I drug under the Controlled Substances Act in 1970. Schedule I drugs are defined as having a high potential for abuse and no medical benefit. Other Schedule I drugs include heroin, LSD, ecstasy and peyote. On Friday, representatives were informed the MORE Act will come up for a vote in the September work period of the House. The MORE Act - Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement Act - will expunge some cannabis records and create grant opportunities for people who have been negatively impacted by the criminalization of marijuana in addition to removing it from its Schedule I classification, according to Politico.Marijuana is already legal in 11 states, despite the federal designation as a Schedule I drug.Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is opposed to the act, and some say the odds of it passing the senate are very slim.Even if the MORE Act passes both chambers of Congress, it would not make sales of marijuana legal. Regulation of marijuana would be left to states to decide how to handle it. 1310.56 per minute and .33 per mile driven while transporting passengers. The measure uses a formula for drivers' compensation so they would be paid fairly when they're less busy. 994

The sun was setting, dinner was waiting and President Donald Trump was making the short walk to his private residence when, on March 8, he suddenly made a detour to the press briefing room.Peeking through a half-opened pocket door, Trump caught the eye of a small handful of reporters and drew them closer."South Korea's going to be making a major statement at about 7 o'clock," Trump said coyly. Vice President Mike Pence stood silently behind him. 457

The state of Tennessee came one step closer to allowing wine sales on Sunday after state Senators voted to approve a bill which had already passed through the House. The vote passed 17-11 on Wednesday morning. Final approval will now lie in the hands of Governor Bill Haslam who needs to sign the bill in order for it to become law.   The controversial plan will allow grocery stores to sell wine on Sunday beginning January 1, 2019.It will also permit liquor stores to immediately begin operating seven days a week. However, liquor store owners argue they are at a huge competitive disadvantage against major grocery store chains, who don't need to make any staffing changes in order to be open on Sundays.  House members approved a similar plan on Monday by a vote of 53 to 35.If approved by the Governor, wine and liquor sales would be allowed from 8 a.m. to 11p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 10a.m. to 11p.m. on Sunday.Tennessee first voted to allow grocery stores to sell wine back in 2016 after years of back and forth and under constant pressure from citizens and grocery store lobbyists.   1151

The U.S. government’s auto safety agency is investigating complaints that headlights can suddenly fail in some older Kia SUVs. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the probe covers about 392,000 Kia Sorento SUVs from the 2011 through 2013 model years. The agency says it has 74 reports of failures that may be related to connectors overheating. There were no reports of crashes or injuries. Some complaints allege that both headlights went out in the middle of turns or while traveling on the highway. In a statement, Kia says its cooperating, and its own investigation shows that both headlights have not gone dark at the same time. U.S. investigators will determine how often the problem happens and look into the safety consequences. 763
