In late November, Gallagher and three other SEALs were notified that a board of peers would determine whether or not they should remain SEALs, the Associated Press reported. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Car owners at a senior community in University City woke up to a messy surprise Tuesday morning. Louise, who asked 10news not to identity her, went to her SUV which was parked on Kantor Street, and her heart sank."I walked to my car and saw that the window had been burst.  It was terrifying," said Louise.Glass was everywhere and inside her vehicle was another mess.  Her glove compartment had been tossed, her insurance and registration scattered.  Nothing was missing, but Louise is nervous."Very afraid of the personal information now they know what address I'm actually at," said Louise.It appears someone took a bat or something like that to bash the window, before unlocking their passenger door.  Louise is not the only victim.  Nearby there were more vehicles hit, some 14 in all.  The windows on those vehicles were also shattered.  Some items were stolen and the repairs will cost hundreds of dollars for each incident."A lot of people on fixed incomes. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- As an active 45-year-old man who loves to surf and take adventures with his daughter, Bryce Olson was the last person his friends expected to get cancer.In 2014, a call while at work confirmed it: stage IV metastatic prostate cancer.Metastatic means the cancer has spread to other parts of the body, lymph nodes, bones or other organs.“It was just shocking and sad and I didn’t know anything about this stuff, so I just...I rolled into whatever my doctors were recommending," said Olson.He says the standard of care - surgery, chemotherapy, and the initial hormone therapy - wasn't working.“I started coming to terms with my own mortality. I didn’t even think I’d see my kid get out of elementary school and I was losing hope," said Olson.Olson says he wanted to make his final days count. The Intel employee started learning about precision medicine and eventually pursued DNA sequencing to find out exactly what was driving his disease.“I'm a believer in profiling your tumor at a molecular level and trying to understand what’s driving your unique disease, and then taking that data and then finding the right drug for the right person at the right time," said Olson.His results led him to a clinical trial in Los Angeles, where he was a perfect molecular match for the drug being tested.Four years later, Olson's precision medicine journey led him to San Diego's Epic Sciences.“We're actually going to a place where no test has gone before," said Murali Prahalad, President and CEO of Epic Sciences. "These are metastatic patients; the disease has already spread. And we’re trying to understand in the later stages of the disease when it’s far more complicated, how do you then understand which treatment is the right one.”Patients like Olson have two treatment options, chemotherapy or hormone therapy."It's very important to know which medicine is going to work," said Pascal Bamford, Chief Scientific Officer of Epic Sciences, "At the metastatic end of this disease every week, every day, every month is critically important."The company has created a blood test to make the choice easier, called the Oncotype DX AR-V7 Nucleus Detect.If the antigen AR-V7 is detected in a patient, they have built a resistance to hormone therapy, meaning chemotherapy would likely be a better treatment option.“We think it’s very groundbreaking, to say this is the first test that can tell a patient which drug to go on to extend their life," said Ryan Dittamore, Chief of Medical Innovation.Dittamore says the test helps provides certainty for doctors. Patients they've studied have almost doubled their life expectancy with the AR-V7 test.“It can mean the world, not only to patients but loved ones," said Dittamore.Olson was AR-V7 negative, meaning he could continue hormone therapy.Four months in, it's working. “I’m going to see my kid not only get out of high school but college and get married. I’m fully confident that I can do that because I’m just going to keep pushing," said Olson.In December 2018 the AR-V7 test will be covered by Medicare, meaning thousands of more men will have access to it. 3150

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – County leaders Wednesday approved a plan that would allow San Diego businesses such as gyms and local places of worship to operate outdoors at county parks.The new initiative gives businesses another option as they look to operate amid the coronavirus pandemic. Last month, the state implemented restrictions that forced many businesses to either close completely or move outdoors.Under the plan, space at any of the county’s 30 parks could be used for service via a free permit.“We need to be creative and provide a lot of flexibility, particularly to churches, places of worship, gyms, and other fitness-oriented businesses,” said County Supervisor Dianne Jacob, who proposed the plan.Jacob said of the process to obtain permits: “I’m asking the county to streamline the process so it’s a very quick turnaround.”She added the process is similar to Poway’s, a city with a similar plan already in place.San Diegan Joel Nevarez visits San Diego’s Waterfront Park off Harbor Drive every morning for his workout because he enjoys it and the park was one of his only options."Getting some sunlight is good for you. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — County public health officials are urging locals who attended indoor services and events at a Kearny Mesa church to quarantine for two weeks after a COVID-19 outbreak linked to the location.The county says anyone who attended Awaken Church at 7620 Balboa Avenue between Nov. 15 and 22 should quarantine for 14 days after their last date of visiting the church and watch for coronavirus symptoms.Officials added that anyone who was at the church within that time frame should get tested for the virus.Generally, the county does not reveal the locations of community outbreaks and has long advocated against the practice. In this instance, public health officials say it's necessary to, "prevent the spread and occurrence of additional cases," and that, "in this case, public health has been unable to identify and notify all of those exposed."In a letter to the church, the county said while the community outbreak linked to the church doesn't mean that anyone contracted COVID-19 at the location, everyone who has attended events at the location should quarantine for 14 days.A community outbreak is three or more COVID-19 cases from different households within two weeks at one location."You should review your current plans to prevent COVID-19 at your location and determine if there are actions that you can take to reduce the likelihood that your staff, customers, or visitors could contract this infection," the letter said.The county added that anyone who has attended the church, as well as the public in general, should continue to wear face coverings, practice social distancing, and avoid large gatherings.With the exception of two days, San Diego County has seen new COVID-19 cases spike to more than 1,000 cases a day over the last week.
