SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Ride-sharing service Uber is expanding its dockless transportation offerings in San Diego Wednesday, introducing e-scooters to the city's streets.Uber's JUMP e-scooters will work similarly to the company's JUMP bicycles, allowing users to either reserve a scooter or walk up to one and unlock it via the Uber app.The scooters also bear a similar resemblance to competing Lime scooters, though instead sporting a red and black color scheme. To kick start the service, Uber is offering free rides and helmets through Jan. 9, 2019. Riders can get up to five, 30-minute rides per day. Scooters will then cost to unlock and SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer and seven other California mayors are calling for the state to loosen restrictions on reopening large theme parks. The letter to Gov. Gavin Newsom requests that the state allow large theme parks to reopen with reduced capacity under the state's third reopening tier (orange/moderate) rather than the fourth (yellow/minimal).The letter stated that, "guidelines put forth by your Administration were released within the framework of prioritizing public health and safety for guests and employees. This is the right focus. However, economic and public health are not mutually exclusive goals.""We are concerned that the state's guidelines would push re-opening of large theme parks up to a year out, which would have significant negative impacts on hundreds of thousands of jobs, thousands of small businesses, and billions in operating revenue for our cities," the letter dated Oct. 30 stated. The letter pointed out San Diego, Los Angeles, and Anaheim as the most impacted cities. The letter is signed by Faulconer, Anaheim Mayor Harry Sidhu, Los Angeles Mayor Kevin Garcetti, San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo, Fresno Mayor Lee Brand, Bakersfield Mayor Karen Goh, Riverside Mayor Rusty Bailey, and Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido. The mayors' cities are either in the red or purple tier of the state's reopening plan.California's theme park guidance allows smaller theme parks to resume operations in the state's third reopening tier (moderate/orange) with a limited capacity of 25% or 500 visitors, whichever is fewer; only outdoor attractions; and ticket sales limited to visitors in the same county. All theme parks may resume operations in the state's fifth tier (yellow/minimal) with a limited capacity of 25%. Any open theme parks must implement a reservations system, screen guests for COVID-19 symptoms, and require face coverings throughout the park unless eating or drinking. 1932.10 a minute after the free rides have been used.San Diego is the fourth city to receive the company's scooter service. Just last month, Uber introduced JUMP bicycles to San Diego, adding about 300 bikes to the city's plentiful dockless transportation options. 910

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego City Councilman Chris Cate sent a letter to Gov. Gavin Newsom's office on Monday, asking that comedy clubs in San Diego be allowed to reopen safely. The letter requests that performances be allowed to reopen in outdoor settings, with shows lasting no longer than an hour."We're not talking about concerts here where thousands of people are sitting next to each other," Cate said. "These are performances that are done while folks and individuals are having dinner in a restaurant setting, properly distanced, why should they be treated any differently?"Earlier this month, some comedy clubs, like The Comedy Palace in Kearney Mesa, moved their comedy shows outdoors, only to find out they were in violation of public health orders and made to stop.George Salek, co-owner of The Comedy Place, said they have a lot of outdoor space, and people were able to observe social distancing."Eighty people is what we're trying to put in 5,000 square feet," he said. "It's really safe."Cate said San Diego's entertainment industry is an important part of the economy."I think anyone who can fit the confines of what we want to have done," Cate said. "If you're all able to comply with all, you should be allowed to reopen absolutely." 1259

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County health officials announced Wednesday that three more people died from complications from the flu bringing the county's death toll this season to 49.The deceased were described as an 84-year-old man and a 62-year-old woman from San Diego, and a 50-year-old woman from East County, according to County of San Diego Communications Office spokesperson Jose A. Alvarez. All three had underlying medical conditions.“Influenza activity in the region is still elevated. People should continue taking precautions to avoid getting sick,” said Wilma Wooten, M.D., M.P.H., County public health officer. “The flu vaccine is safe and effective.”This season's death toll is far lower than last season. 307 San Diegans died from complications from the flu through this time last year. The number of people with influenza-like symptoms who showed up at local emergency departments went up one percentage point last week, reaching 6 percent again. The flu claimed the county's first young victim Feb. 20. A 14-year-old girl became the first child to die from influenza this season in San Diego. The girl had an underlying health condition, according to the County Health and Human Services Agency. She had contracted influenza A, also known as H1N1, the county says, and had not received this season's flu vaccine. The majority of cases have been of the H1N1 virus, the county says, which typically affects younger and middle-aged adults because they have not been exposed as much as older adults.County health officials and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention strongly advise the annual flu vaccination for everyone 6 months and older, especially demographics with a heightened risk of serious complications, such as pregnant women, people older than 65 and people with chronic conditions."Due to continued elevated influenza activity in the county, Wooten is extending—until April 30—the order for unvaccinated health care personnel to wear a mask while they’re in patient care areas. If influenza activity remains elevated, a further extension may be required," Alvarez said. For the week ending March 16, 2019, the Influenza Watch report shows the following:Emergency department visits for influenza-like illness: 6 percent of all visits (compared to 5 percent as the previous week).Lab-confirmed influenza cases for the week: 508 (compared to 574 the previous week).Total influenza deaths to date: 49 (compared to 307 at this time last season).Total lab-confirmed cases to date: 7,184 (compared to 19,442 at this time last season). 2573
