INGLEWOOD (CNS) - A suspect allegedly armed with a sword opened fire on responding officers Wednesday at or near the Church of Scientology in Inglewood, injuring two of them before he was himself wounded by return fire, possibly fatally, police said.One officer was struck in a hand and the other in an arm in the shooting, which was reported about 3:30 p.m. in the 300 block of South Market Street, according to the Inglewood Police Department.Both were taken to a hospital for treatment of what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.The suspect, initially reported by police to have been killed in the exchange of gunfire, was later taken to a hospital, according to a fire department spokesman.Inglewood police Lt. Neal Cochran, citing initial information from the scene, said the suspect was believed to have been fatally wounded, but subsequent reports indicated he was in grave condition.The gunfire erupted after two officers responded to a report of a male suspect armed with a sword at or near the Church of Scientology at 315 S. INDIANAPOLIS — The Marion County Coroner will be releasing the autopsy results to the family of Dreasjon Reed on the same day the family was planning a press conference to demand its release.The 21-year-old man was shot and killed by an IMPD officer following a pursuit on May 6.The Reed family lawyers had requested a copy of the autopsy report, which the Marion County Coroner's Office says was completed on June 12 and then sent to the special prosecutor, but were initially denied their request after the special prosecutor asked that the report not be released.The Reed family had scheduled a press conference for 11 a.m. on Aug. 5 outside the Marion County Coroner's Office to demand the report be released.The Marion County Coroner issued a statement just after 10 a.m. saying they had received a decision from the Marion Superior Court that morning authorizing the release of the autopsy report to Reed's mother, Demetree Wynn.After receiving the report from the coroner's office, Wynn still addressed the media gathered at the coroner's office."You can not do what you did to my son and tell me it was right," Wynn said. "I've been a nurse for 20 years and I'm not stupid. Don't insult my intelligence by assuming I don't know how to read. I know what it says. And if it was your child, I promise you, you couldn't stand here.""I can't breathe, my heart hurts. But I'm still standing here and there ain't no way in hell you can do that to somebody else's kid and be okay with it," Wynn said. The investigation is still ongoing and the team respects and will adhere to the Court's decision as it works to provide as comprehensive an investigation as possible."Khoury was appointed as the special prosecutor on June 4. On July 2, the court ordered IMPD and the Marion County lab to turn over all evidence to Indiana State Police. In the midst of a political battle over funding for the United States Postal Service, it appears the Department of Veterans Affairs has been looking into alternative delivery services.A veterans group called Disabled Vets of America posted a statement to their website explaining the situation, after they had approached the VA about concerns their members had shared.“The VA has now confirmed to us that the United States Postal Service (USPS), which is responsible for delivering about 90% of all VA mail order prescriptions, has indeed been delayed in delivering these critical medications by an average of almost 25% over the past year, with many locations experiencing much more significant delays,” the statement posted to the DAV’s website states.The VA acknowledged it was looking into delivery services outside the USPS in an email exchange with the DAV, according to CNN.“To help mitigate these postal delays, the VA has been forced to switch to alternative delivery services in a number of areas across the country and is taking other actions to expedite processing and delivery of prescriptions,” the statement from DAV reads.The VA has had an increase in demand for mail-order prescriptions during the coronavirus pandemic, they told CNN. Explaining that the VA has always used a “variety of prescription delivery methods to ensure timely delivery.”Spokesperson Christina Noel said they monitor prescription delivery times throughout the country. 1467
