NARA, Japan, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Culture Minister Cai Wu met with Seiichi Kondo, Commissioner for Cultural Affairs of Japan, Yu In-Chon, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of South Korea on Tuesday in Japan's Nara for the 3rd China-Japan- South Korea Ministerial Conference on Culture.The officials exchanged views on China-Japan, China-South Korea bilateral cultural exchanges and cooperation.During the meeting with Kondo, Cai said that the scale and number of China-Japan cultural exchanges rank the first in international cultural exchanges in China and China is willing to develop the bilateral relations on a strategic and long-term point of view.China will enhance the strategic and mutually beneficial relationship between the two countries through cultural exchanges and cooperation, he added.This year, the Chinese Ministry of Culture, with the joint efforts of the two countries' concerned departments, will hold China-Japan "Animation Festival" as well as "Television Week."Seiichi Kondo agreed with Cai's comments on China-Japan cultural exchanges and cooperation and added that although China and Japan experienced some political twists and turns, Japan always attaches great importance to and actively promote the bilateral cultural exchanges and cooperation.Japan is willing to work hand-in-glove with China in regional cooperation and contribute to improving the bilateral relationship, the Japanese official said.During the meeting with Yu In-Chon, Cai said that with the joint efforts of the leaders and different circles from both countries, China-South Korea cultural exchanges have become an important part of the bilateral strategic partnership.The South Korean minister said the width and depth of cultural exchanges have been expanded year by year. In recent years, the two countries have learned from each other in the fields of culture and art, performance and exhibition, cultural relics reservation, and intangible cultural heritage.Yu In-Chon said he fully agrees with Cai's comments and prospects on China-South Korea bilateral cultural exchanges and cooperation and is willing to work with China to actively promote personnel exchanges, exchanges of troupe performances, and exchanges programs for the youth, in order to deepen the understanding and enhance the feelings between the two peoples.The 3rd China-Japan-South Korea Ministerial Conference on Culture will be officially held on Wednesday.

BEIJING, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- China reiterated its commitment to support Sudan's peace process, stressing that peace, stability and development of the country were of pivotal importance."The involved parties should resolve disputes through dialogue and consultation and work together to promote a smooth referendum in southern Sudan," Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi was quoted as saying in a press release issued by the Chinese Foreign Ministry here Wednesday.Yang's remarks came during the talks with his visiting Sudanese counterpart Ahmed Ali Karti. GENEVA, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- It is time for the Doha Development Round to begin to center around the Chair-led multilateral process and to come up with a revised text, Sun Zhenyu, the Chinese ambassador to the World Trade Organization (WTO), said on Tuesday at a WTO Trade Negotiation Committee meeting."Time is not with us," Sun said, stressing the need to "plan wisely" in the year ahead to seize the window of opportunity in 2011, which is recognized by both G20 and APEC leaders in early November.Sun commended progress generated from the "Cocktail Approach," which is made up of small-group informal discussions and brainstorming among the ambassadors, carried out throughout the last few months.The brainstorming "paves way for possible progress in quite a few areas such as development, rules and dispute settlement," the Chinese ambassador said."But after all, the brainstorming is not and could not replace negotiating sessions," he added, calling for intensified engagements to deliver the revised texts at the earliest time."One of the major achievements of the G20 Summit in Seoul is that leaders reaffirmed their strong commitment to the DDA and directed us as negotiators to engage in across-the-board negotiations to promptly bring the Doha Development Round to a conclusion," the Chinese ambassador said."Across-the-board trade-offs could have a better chance when we have the texts on the table," Sun noted.He also reiterated the stance on honoring the leaders' instructions through "respecting the mandate" and "building on the progress already achieved," in order to achieve a balanced and ambitious outcome.In his speech, Sun gave priority to development as the top outcome of the Doha Round."Above everything, it has to be development-oriented," he said, giving a clear message that China is in favor of addressing the concerns of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Vulnerable Economies (SVEs) as a priority.

BEIJING, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- China's consumer price index (CPI), a major gauge of inflation, rose to a 28-month high of 5.1 percent in November, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said Saturday.The growth rate picked up from 4.4 percent in October, according to the NBS. The inflation was driven by a 11.7 percent of surge in food prices, which accounts for one third of the basket of goods used to calculate China's CPI.The year-on-year increase in food prices grew from rises of 10.1 percent in October, 8 percent in September and 7.5 percent in August.From January to November, China's CPI rose 3.2 percent year on year, surpassing the government's target ceiling of 3 percent for the year.The producer price index (PPI) for China's industrial products rose 6.1 percent year on year in November, compared with a 5.0 percent gain in October.
