A new study out of a pediatric medical center in Chicago suggests that young children do not only spread COVID-19 more efficiently than adults, but they could be major drivers in the pandemic as schools start to reopen.The report was published at the end of July and examined concentrations of COVID-19 in the nasopharynx, or the upper region of the throat that connects nasal passages. According to the results, children ages 5 and younger who develop mild to moderate symptoms have 10 to 100 times as much COVID-19 in their nasopharynx as adults.“This is a very complex issue involving not just the virus, but everything else,” said Dr. Kwang Sik Kim, director of pediatric infectious disease at Johns Hopkins University Hospital. "We don’t have any real data to indicate to schools what they should do, what is the best recipe they need to follow.”The study raised concerns about the erratic behavior of children and how it could play a factor in the virus’ spread, reading, "Behavioral habits of young children and close quarters in school and daycare settings raise concern for SARS-CoV-2 amplification in this population as public health restrictions are eased. A retired police officer who was falsely accused by many Twitter users of accosting three young adults on a Maryland bicycle trail says he was saddened and scared by the barrage of hate directed against him.John Damskey, a Montgomery County police officer for nearly 30 years, was one of at least two men whose names, photos and personal information were posted by internet vigilantes before police on Friday arrested and charged another man, 60-year-old Anthony Brennan III, with assaulting three people posting flyers protesting the death of George Floyd.Millions of Twitter users have viewed a video of the encounter. Many falsely blamed Damskey, who says the experience has been surreal and terrifying.In a widely-shared video, the man, allegedly Brennan, attacked three young adults last week who were posting flyers in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. The video showed a man arguing and grabbing the flyers from one of the victims. The man then pushed his bicycle toward one of the victims who was filming the encounter.“I’ve got a wife who is in tears. A self-driving vehicle operated by Waymo was involved in a crash in Chandler on Friday afternoon. Helicopter footage from Scripps station KNXV in Phoenix showed significant damage to the self-driving van, as well as a silver sedan, after the collision near Chandler Village Drive and Chandler Boulevard. Minor injuries were reported in the crash.Chandler police said the Waymo van was in autonomous mode with an occupant behind the wheel at the time of the crash, but was not the "violator vehicle."Police spokesman Seth Tyler said it is believed that this is the first Waymo collision in Chandler this year.RELATED: Waymo gives?360-degree?view of what it's like inside self-driving carsThis is the second known self-driving car crash in the Phoenix area in the past two months.
