Echoing sentiments shared before Thanksgiving, the CDC is pleading with Americans to stay home this holiday season to slow the spread of the coronavirus."The best thing for Americans to do in the upcoming holiday season is to stay at home and not travel,'' said Dr. Henry Walke, CDC's COVID-19 incident manager, during a news briefing Wednesday."Cases are rising. On the Sunday before Thanksgiving, the TSA screened 1.17 million travelers, a record high since the pandemic started.For those who decide to travel, the CDC now recommends people get tested for COVID-19 both before and after their trips. Their guidance is to test one to three days before travel and again three to five days after travel. They also strongly recommend reducing nonessential activities and quarantining for several days around travel.Health experts, including the White House coronavirus task force is urging those who don’t get tested to act like they could be infectious and quarantine after travel to reduce the potential spread.Walke said the CDC expects to see an increase in the already high level of coronavirus cases in the next few days from Thanksgiving travel.There have been more than 13.7 million positive cases of coronavirus in this country since the pandemic started, more than 180,000 new cases were recorded December 2. DULZURA, Calif. (KGTV) - An East San Diego County man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of poisoning his wife with Thallium.The woman was taken to a hospital on March 15 with an unknown illness. Deputies said the woman had a level of Thallium in her system that was so high, medical staff believed her exposure was intentional.Thallium is a heavy metal which has been used in rat poison and ant pesticides.Sheriff’s detectives, along with the FBI, NCIS, and San Diego County HazMat, conducted an investigation and believed the woman’s husband was responsible for her poisoning.Race Remington Uto, 27, was booked into Vista Detention Facility. (KGTV) - Surveillance video has recently captured multiple incidents of what appears to be a thief returning over and over to prey upon elderly residents of the Salvation Army apartment building in El Cajon.Apartment staff at the building on South Anza Street say there have been at least five robberies between October and Christmas Eve. Each appears to include the same thief."He's the lowest form of life in my book," building superintendent Alex Harmon told 10News. "To prey on the elderly. They've got walkers for crying out loud."In one incident captured on video, the man approached a 97-year-old woman taking a walk on the sidewalk outside the building. He was seen opening her bag, which was placed on her walker, then removing an item and walking away.The woman later told building staff that he had struck up a conversation about her walker and that she had offered him candy. She says he opened her bag and instead of taking candy, stole her wallet.In a separate incident, the suspected thief and what appears to be a lookout are seen carefully observing an elderly woman walking by. One man then turned and followed her around the corner. She told 10News that's when he raced up and grabbed her gold necklace, breaking off her gold cross, and running off.Multiple police reports have been filed with El Cajon Police Department, which is investigating. 1389

(KGTV) -- Some parents are upset after a document from the Cajon Valley Union School District was accidentally shared.Cajon Valley Union School District Superintendent David Miyashiro said an employee’s notes taken during a weekend planning summit -- which included the teachers union, school board members, and district management -- were inadvertently released.Under one of the sections in the notes is language describing parents as “stay at home mom, do not want to teach their kids,” as well as references to some parents being “right-wing” and “not all believe this is real and believe it will be finished by August.”Several parents obtained the document and were upset with how they were described. Demanding answers, some parents showed up at a closed-door district meeting on Tuesday evening where reopening plans were being discussed.Miyashiro sent 10News this statement on the matter: “I've both apologized to the parent community on our behalf and also addressed this with the employee. They weren't meant for public view but there's no excuse ... we don't speak about anyone that way.”Parents who spoke to 10News about the notes said they want something to come out of this situation, whether it’s training or education for staff members."The trust has been lost; the trust between parents and the school district. Trust between parents and superintendent, trust between parents and the board, I think. That's the feeling I get,” one parent said.The district, made up of 16 elementary schools and five middles schools, serves over 17,000 students in various communities in and around El Cajon. 1631
