SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 28-year-old motorcyclist who led police on a pursuit through the Pacific Beach area of San Diego was hospitalized this morning with a life-threatening injury after crashing into another vehicle.The motorcyclist failed to yield to officers near the intersection of Garnet Avenue and Jewell Street about 11:10 p.m. Friday, and led officers southbound on Jewell Street, then westbound on Grand Avenue, according to Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.At the intersection of Grand Avenue and Fanuel Street, the motorcyclist split lanes between stopped vehicles and entered the intersection on a red light and broadsided a 2019 Toyota Prius going southbound on Fanuel Street, Heims said.The rider sustained a life-threatening brain bleed that required immediate surgery. The 62-year-old driver of the Prius and his passengers were not hurt, Heims said.The name of the suspect was not disclosed. 937

SAN DIEGO -- As part of an initiative aimed at expanding San Diego's regional bike network, SANDAG has released a map of bikeways throughout the county. The plan, known as GO by BIKE, proposes a bike system of interconnected corridors, support facilities and programs that make biking a convenient form of travel.According to Keep San Diego Moving, making the region more bike-friendly resolves issues like traffic congestion, air quality and livability.The plan proposes a network of bike corridors that will allow residents to bike on more direct routes within and between major destinations and activity centers.The plan also supports the implementation of SANDAG’s regional comprehensive plan and SANDAG’s 2050 regional transportation plan.To promote the infrastructure, SANDAG is putting on Bike to Work Day, which will take place on Thursday, May 17.The plan also has a 0 million early action program. SAN DIEGO (AP) — Little Kurt looks like any other baby horse as he frolics playfully in his pen. But the 2-month-old, dun-colored colt is actually a clone. He was created by fusing cells taken from an endangered Przewalski’s horse at the San Diego Zoo in 1980. The cells were infused with an egg from a domestic horse that gave birth to Kurt two months ago. The baby boy was named for Kurt Benirschke, a founder of the San Diego Zoo's Frozen Zoo, where thousands of cell cultures are stored. Scientists hope Kurt will help restore the Przewalski’s population, which numbers only about 2,000. 599
