Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is checking himself into a hospital Saturday after revealing he tested positive for COVID-19, he said in a tweet. In consultation with my doctors, I checked myself into Morristown Medical Center this afternoon. While I am feeling good and only have mild symptoms, due to my history of asthma we decided this is an important precautionary measure.— Governor Christie (@GovChristie) October 3, 2020 The governor cited a history of asthma for checking into Morristown Medical Center despite saying he was "feeling good." “I just received word that I am positive for COVID-19. I want to thank all of my friends and colleagues who have reached out to ask how I was feeling in the last day or two. I will be receiving medical attention today and will keep the necessary folks apprised of my condition,” Christie tweeted Saturday morning. I am thankful for our hardworking medical professionals and look forward to coming home soon.— Governor Christie (@GovChristie) October 3, 2020 Christie assisted President Donald Trump with debate preparations earlier this week.Trump is being treated for COVID-19 at Walter Reed Hospital after announcing early Friday that he and first lady Melania had tested positive. This story was first reported by Stephen M. The Ohio Department of Agriculture issued a warning about an insect that could kill wine in Ohio. The spotted lanternfly can cause significant damage to some plants and has been seen in Pennsylvania. According to the Department of Agriculture, the insect is fond of grape and fruit trees, hops, blueberry, oak, pine, poplar and walnut. Adult spotted lanterflies usually eat grapevines, while nymphs eat multiple types of plants. The insects eat stems and leaves, which can cause sap to bleed and reduce photosynthesis, which can eventually kill the plant.Spotted lanternflies can be spotted now through November. The insect can be identified by its red body, roughly a half-inch in size, with black stripes and white dots. Later this summer until November, the insect is in the adult moth stage. The adults are larger, roughly one inch in size, with black bodies and brightly colored wings. The insect has not been confirmed in Ohio yet but residents who believe they have spotted one are asked to report it online or by calling 614-728-640. HAMPTON ROADS, Va.— Online shopping is convenient, especially at a time when everyone is encouraged to avoid crowds, but you’ll want to be sure to take extra steps during the holidays to make sure you’re not placing an order for someone else to pick up.Lori Torres, CEO of Parcel Pending, a package management company says one in five Americans is a victim of porch pirates.Porch pirates are constantly lurking for their next victim. They steal at night and they even steal during the day. The good news is, there are several things shoppers can do to make sure no one else gets your package except you.“Know when your package is getting delivered,” said Torres. “Don’t order and be going out of town for a couple of days when you were waiting for a package to arrive.”Torres says people should be monitoring delivery updates and be sure to grab their package once it’s delivered. She says shoppers can often times track and reroute packages online or through an app so they arrive when they are ready to pick them up.“A lot of the courier services from FedEx to UPS will let you reroute, and they can either hold them at their hub or they can hold them at a retail store.”That’s exactly what Amy Dallam is doing this holiday season. “One of the things I do is I sign up for text notifications of the delivery status so I know when it’s approaching and I can maybe delay an errand or something,” explained Dallam. If you’re not home during a delivery, experts say it’s a good idea to ask a neighbor to hold onto your package. Another safe option is mailing your package to a secure locker or P.O Box. You can also have the retailer hold on to your goods.“You can buy online and go into a store pick it up in a locker so now it’s contact free you get your item and safe and secure and you can get it the same day,” said Torres.Torres encourages anyone who has their package stolen to file a report with police. As criminals look for their next opportunity neighbors say they’ll be watching.“I would say, just as neighbors, look out for each other and if you see something that’s not right, follow up on it,” Dallam. Video of a man shooting a flamethrower on top of an MTA bus has sparked an NYPD investigation, police said Tuesday. The incident happened on Nov. 8 around 5:30 p.m. in Brooklyn, according to the NYPD.The wild video shows a shirtless man jumping from the top of an ice cream truck onto an MTA bus that had just pulled up alongside it. The man then shoots the flamethrower, spraying flames into the sky and onto the ground before jumping onto the street, the video shows. Brooklyn is LIT #whatisnewyork pic.twitter.com/XNLNmaC01v— WhatIsNewYork (@whatisny) November 17, 2020 The video appears to have been part of the filming of a music video by a rapper called Dupree G.O.D, according to his Instagram account.Another video posted to Dupree G.O.D’s Instagram shows the same incident from above, possibly filmed by a drone.“We shut Franklin Avenue down. With amazing energy. We are in this together. We the illest. Video coming,” part of the caption said.Police were called to the scene but officers who arrived found no evidence of fire and could not find any witnesses, according to the NYPD.Police said they were made aware of the video after it was posted on social media Tuesday.A police spokesperson called the video shoot "impromptu and illegal," adding that the NYPD was not aware of any permits for the shoot. The NYPD is also investigating possible drone use in the video shoot. The MTA said 25 passengers were on the B26 bus when the man jumped onto the roof. No injuries were reported. The bus was discharged at the following stop and passengers were transferred to another bus, the MTA said.“We don’t even need to say how absurd, dangerous and just plain stupid this was. The reckless individual who torched over the top of an occupied bus put New Yorkers, including the bus operator, in life-threatening peril,” the MTA said in a statement Tuesday. “We are grateful the courageous actions of the operator in moving riders to safety minimized risk, and are cooperating fully with the NYPD investigation.” This article was written by Lauren Cook for WPIX. 2092

More veterans are getting hired but many are still likely to be underemployed, according to new data from LinkedIn. An underemployed worker is defined as someone whose skill set is not being used at their job. Experts say what often happens is veterans will start receiving letters or emails saying a job has been filled. So veterans will likely turn to other positions where they can get hired but may not use their skills. “We believe that employers have kind of unintentionally created programs that have really created the path of least resistance for the veteran community, so it’s pipelined them into particular industries or certain roles, which has sort of limited the aperture of what's available and what's possible,” says Sara Roberts, the head of military and veteran programs at LinkedIn. Experts at LinkedIn say it's important for veterans to research the industry when they begin to look at civilian jobs to understand the type of jobs that are out there. And to network, especially with other veteran groups. “What veterans can do is be thoughtful and intentional about diversifying their network with industry leaders, as they plan for what's next, and the different types of opportunities that they're excited about, especially as they make their transition,” Robert says. Some cities have stronger veteran networks than others. You can also look online for organizations that can help, like the 1426
