WILSON, N.C. - The Wilson (North Carolina) Police Department have arrested and charged a man in connection to a Sunday night shooting that left a five-year-old boy dead.Police say 25-year-old Darius N. Sessoms has been charged with first degree murder and has received no bond.Sessoms was found inside a home on Monday in Goldsboro after a warrant was put out for his arrest in connection to the shooting that took place Sunday night.According to officials, on Sunday around 5:33 p.m., officials received a call regarding a shooting.5-year-old Cannon Hinnant was found suffering from a gunshot wound. Wildlife biologists with the Conservancy of Southwest Florida shared a shocking python find in Collier-Seminole State Forest on Thursday. An invasive Burmese python's eyes were a little bigger than its stomach when it decided to devour a white-tailed deer fawn. Officials say pythons have been known to kill and ingest large prey and this was a record breaking meal.  Officials stumbled upon the python with the massive prey inside. The biologists removed the python out of the wild into an open area and the python was stressed so it pushed the deer out of its mouth. In the photo below you can see the breathing tube and tongue of the python as it has its mouth wrapped around the deer. Biologists believe it is the largest python-to-prey ratio documented. The python was 31.5 pounds and the deer was 35 pounds; 111% of the python's mass. The findings will be published in the March 2018 issue of the Herpetological Review.“This observation is another important piece of evidence for the negative impact invasive Burmese pythons are having on native wildlife across the Greater Everglades Ecosystem” said Ian Bartoszek, Conservancy of Southwest Florida wildlife biologist. “Imagine the potential consequences to the state and federally protected Florida panther if Burmese pythons adversely affect the number of white-tailed deer, a panther’s primary prey.”Biologists are focused on the impact the python is having across the food chain. Since 2013, the Conservancy and its research partners have been conducting research to document the invasive Burmese python's biology and behavior in Collier County, including the tracking, removal and necropsy of captured pythons.Kelly Bazzle is the Digital Executive Producer at Scripps Station WFTS. With billions of dollars in federal aid slated to expire within hours, thousands of airline employees are bracing for potential job layoffs and furloughs in the coming days.The CARES Act, passed by Congress and signed into law by President Donald Trump in March, allocated billion in federal aid for U.S. airline companies who were floundering amid the COVID-19 pandemic. However, those bills were only allocated through Oct. 1 — meaning that aid expires on Thursday.Several airlines have already announced that they will be forced to lay off thousands of workers if Congress does not pass a bill that would allocate more bailouts to the airline industry.In August, Delta issued a WARN notice of potential mass layoffs with the state of Georgia that more than 2,500 more could face extended furloughs. The company has already offered early retirement packages to thousands of pilots.According to the Associated Press, American Airlines informed employees in August that it will cut more than 40,000 jobs — 19,000 of them through furlough and layoffs — in October if the business environment did not improve.On Monday, pilots with United Airlines approved a plan that would avoid the furlough of 2,850 pilots which would have begun Oct. 1. In exchange, pilots agreed to reduce their minimum work hours. The airline still plans to cut 19,000 jobs in October, according to CNBC.CNBC also reports that there is bipartisan support to offer more federal aid to the airline industry. However, Republicans and Democrats have not reached a deal on a larger stimulus package, leaving airlines lost in the shuffle. The Democrats included additional airline bailout funds in a .2 trillion stimulus package on Monday, and talk regarding funds for the industry has "progressed" with the White House in recent days.According to figures from the Transportation Security Administration, the agency is routinely screening more than a million fewer airline passengers every day than it would have at the same point a year ago — an indication that demand for air travel is still lagging amid the COVID-19 pandemic. 2108
