SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diegans are feeling the effects of a winter storm moving through the county Thanksgiving weekend. The storm is expected to dump heavy rain along the coast and snow in the mountains.Heavy rain expected throughout San Diego CountyA flash flood watch was issued from late Tuesday night through Thursday evening. According to the National Weather Service, rainfall totals of two to three inches are possible, especially on coastal mountain slopes. Some areas could also see rainfall rates of half an inch per hour. "The threat for flash flooding is greatest in the mountains below 5,500 feet through Wednesday, below 4,500 to 5,000 feet for Wednesday night through Thursday, and on the lowest elevations of the mountains for Thursday evening," the agency said. Snow expected to impact travelA winter storm warning is in effect for the San Diego County mountains from 4 a.m. Wednesday through 10 p.m. Friday. The National Weather Service says snowfall accumulations of 3 to 6 inches are expected between 4,000 and 4,500 feet, 6 to 18 inches from 4,500 to 5,500 feet, and from 1 to 3 feet above 5,500 feet. Snowfall for lower elevations below 4,000 feet of 1 to 3 inches is also expected, mostly for late Thursday through Friday.Strong southwest winds of 50 to 70 miles per hour are also expected along ridges and desert slopes. If you would like to freeze avocado halves, remove the peel and pit, according to California Avocado. Brush the halves with lemon juice and wrap tightly in plastic wrap so no air gets through. Put the halves into a freezer-safe bag and press out the air. Although the wrapping method is effective, Cook’s Illustrated reports the texture may change when you thaw the avocado. They signed a Memorandum of Understanding between their organizations to work together on "Smart City" technologies such as unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), smart streetlights, renewable energy, and the City's "Get it Done" app. Last year the City of San Diego was selected for a pilot program by the U.S. Department of Transportation to advance the testing of UAS, more commonly referred to as drones. They're already being used by police and fire in Chula Vista. "We will share our experiences, we'll share as we discover uses for data together, and share how advanced technology can benefit the people that we both serve," said Mayor Faulconer. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego County Supervisors and the charity organization responsible for running a shelter for asylum seekers responded Wednesday to the county’s lawsuit against the heads of government agencies. The County of San Diego filed the lawsuit Wednesday against Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, Acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Ronald D. Vitiello, Immigrant and Customs Enforcement Executive Associate Director Matthew T. Albence, Commissioner of Customs and Border Protection Kevin K. McAleenan, and Chief of Border Patrol Carla L. Provost. The suit claims the end of the “Safe Release” program, which provided migrants with aid needed to leave San Diego County, was unlawful. The County of San Diego wants to reinstate the policy, which ended last fall, and be reimbursed for the cost of supporting asylum seekers in the following months.
