VIENNA — Austrian authorities say at least one gunman, shooting apparently at random in a popular Vienna nightlife area hours before a coronavirus lockdown took effect, killed four people in an Islamic extremist attack. WASHINGTON (AP) — A voter initiative led by Michelle Obama is partnering with a similar group founded by NBA star LeBron James and other prominent Black athletes and entertainers to sponsor events in major U.S. cities starting next week to generate excitement about voting early for the Nov. 3 election.Mrs. Obama’s When We All Vote and James’ More Than A Vote are teaming to provide information, transportation, food, music, personal protective equipment and other support at early voting sites around the country Oct. 18-31.“Millions of Americans have already cast their ballot and with only 21 days until Election Day. Making your plan to vote early is critical,” Mrs. Obama said Tuesday in a statement to The Associated Press. “It’s now up to us to do everything in our power to get our friends and family ready to vote early and safely together. We can’t leave anyone behind.”The former first lady is also launching a challenge to encourage more people to vote before Nov. 3. Her group also announced more than million in grants and supplies to local partner organizations to host their own activities.In-person events are planned for Atlanta; Charlotte, North Carolina; Detroit; Los Angeles; Milwaukee; Orlando, Florida; and Philadelphia. VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - For the third time in recent months, a local Boy Scout troop is coping with a heartbreaking theft.As they were getting ready to leave on a camping trip Friday, Boy Scout Troop 722 in Vista realized their camping trailer was gone.Without a trailer, future trips are now in jeopardy.The trailer was parked in the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church parking lot when someone broke the padlock and stole the trailer. Because the troop has dealt with vandalism in the past, all their gear is kept in a shipping container. The trailer has a unique bolt on its door, which was put in to prevent people from breaking in.Replacing the trailer will cost the troop ,000.Community members can donate on a Go Fund Me page set up for the troop. If you spot the trailer, contact the Vista Sheriff's Department.In September, a Chula Vista Troop's trailer was stolen, as well as one earlier this month one in University City. Visitors to the Bahamas will no longer have to quarantine for 14 days after the island updated its coronavirus rules over the weekend.On Sunday, the island stated in a press release that anyone who visits must test negative for COVID-19 five days before arriving on the island, apply for a health travel visa, complete a daily questionnaire, and take a rapid antigen test the fifth day of your stay.The antigen test is not required if you are leaving on the fifth day.And you're required to wear a mask and social distance in public places.Beginning Nov. 14, visitors must opt into COVID-19 health insurance when applying for the health travel visas."The cost of the required COVID Health Insurance is included in the Bahamas Health Visa and paid in advance of travel," island officials stated on its FAQ.The island said anyone who presents a test older than five days would not be allowed entry.Prior to the rules change on Sunday, visitors had to quarantine for 14 days upon their arrival as part of its vacation-in-place. 1032

WASHINGTON — During his opening comments at a Congressional hearing on Tuesday, Dr. Anthony Fauci — the nation's top infectious disease expert — reiterated his confidence that a viable vaccine for COVID-19 would be developed by the end of the calendar year.Fauci says he believes that "it will be when, not if" that there will be millions of doses of a viable vaccine available by the end of 2020.Fauci made those comments Tuesday before the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. He is testifying along with Dr. Robert Redfield, the head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Dr. Stephen Hahn, the head of the Food and Drug Administration.The hearing comes as coronavirus cases are rising in about half the states and political polarization is competing for attention with public health recommendations.The nation is emerging from weeks of stay-at-home orders and business shutdowns.
