Police responded to the scene of a reported accidental death of a child after she was left in a hot vehicle in Nashville.According to Metro Nashville Police, a 1-year-old girl was found dead Wednesday after she'd been left in a car seat all day in a pickup truck.The truck was parked at the family's East Nashville home. Police said the adoptive father reportedly forgot about the child after dropping off her sibling at daycare.The adoptive mother found the girl in the vehicle Wednesday evening around 5:40. She was pronounced dead when she arrived to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.Police taped off the area of the home as they continued to investigate. 685

Papa John's is breaking up with the NFL.The pizza chain, which last year blamed slumping sales on the NFL's handling of player protests, is ending its sponsorship of the league."While the NFL remains an important channel for us, we have determined that there are better ways to reach and activate this audience," CEO Steve Ritchie said a conference call to discuss the company's quarterly earnings.Papa John's has been a league sponsor since 2010. It will keep its partnerships with 22 of the individual teams.Last fall, then-CEO John Schnatter received heavy criticism after he said Papa John's sales were hurt by the NFL's handling of protests by players who knelt during the National Anthem."This should have been nipped in the bud a year and a half ago," Schnatter told investors at the time. "The controversy is polarizing the customer, polarizing the country."The company later apologized."The statements made on our earnings call were describing the factors that impact our business and we sincerely apologize to anyone that thought they were divisive," it said on Twitter. "That definitely was not our intention."Schnatter left the company at the end of the year.Ritchie said the parting was mutual. The NFL did not immediately respond to a request for comment.Papa John's reported Tuesday that North American sales were down 3.9% from a year ago. The stock has lost a third of its value since June."We have really got a lot of key learnings on how we can invest our dollars more appropriately," Ritchie added. Outdoor equipment retailer REI announced they are looking to sell their brand new corporate headquarters in Washington, as they embrace working from home and remote work options.“The dramatic events of 2020 have challenged us to reexamine and rethink every aspect of our business and many of the assumptions of the past. That includes where and how we work,” said REI President and CEO Eric Artz, in a video call with employees Wednesday. “As a result, our new experience of 'headquarters' will be very different than the one we imagined more than four years ago.”The company’s headquarters is being built in the Seattle area, in Bellevue, and is roughly 400,000 square feet and sits on eight acres of land. Corporate staff was planning on moving in to the newly-completed building this summer, according to the Seattle Times. REI transitioned to nearly 100 percent remote work in early March for corporate staff. Washington reported some of the earliest cases of coronavirus in the country.Retail stores closed in March across the country and recently reopened.The company admits the sale will also benefit them financially. They cite safety and preventative measures retail stores and the company have taken during the pandemic, in addition to slower sales with the temporary closure of stores.Artz and the board of directors have taken paycuts and in July, REI announced a 5 percent reduction in staff.REI says they will embrace remote work as an “engrained, supported, and normalized model for headquarters employees, offering flexibility for more employees to live and work outside of the Puget Sound region and shrinking the co-op’s carbon footprint.” 1665

Plans to build a new 4-acre, .5 million park in National City got a boost this week, thanks to a partnership with the federal government.The Environmental Health Coalition will help the city plan the park and the surrounding area, to make sure people can access the park without having to drive there.National City is one of just 10 communities across the country chosen for the Safe Routes to Parks Initiative.The new park will be near 22nd Street and Harding, where an empty field sits right now. As part of the construction, the EHC will help design safer streets around the park."Kids are trying to get from point a to point b and they have to cross through that main road," explains City Engineer Jose Lopez. "Without enhancements to the road, there's no way a 10-year old or 5-year old can cross the street."The EHC will help the city plan curb extensions, a median refuge island in crosswalks and local trails to let people walk through parks instead of along busy streets.According to a release announcing the partnership, communities chosen for the program had high rates of crime and violence, and also high rates of weight-related chronic diseases. The Safe Routes to Parks program  hopes to increase park use and help communities become healthier and safer.Right now the park is still in the planning stages. Pharmacy chains CVS and Walgreens announced on Monday that they have started administering coronavirus vaccines to those living and working in assisted living facilities.The announcement comes on the same day Modern’s coronavirus vaccine began being administered throughout the US. Moderna’s vaccine was the second to receive an emergency use authorization from the FDA. Last week, Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine began being administered nationwide."Today's rollout is the culmination of months of internal planning and demonstrates how the private sector can use its expertise to help solve some of our most critical challenges," said Larry J. "I'm grateful for the herculean efforts of everyone involved, including our health care professionals who will be deployed throughout the country to bring peace of mind to long-term care facility residents, staff, and their loved ones."Pharmacy chain Walgreens said last week that it will be working with 35,000 assisted care facilities throughout the US in the coming weeks and months in administering the coronavirus vaccine. Last week, CVS announced plans to vaccinate those working or living in 40,000 assisted living facilities.Walgreens expects to vaccinate 3 million residents and staff at facilities throughout the US. CVS did not announced how many people they expect to vaccinate through the program.Walgreens said it will be administering coronavirus vaccines to residents and staff at 800 facilities spread across 12 US states this week.CVS and Walgreens are expected at some point to administer the coronavirus vaccine to the general public, but when is still a major question.
