ANCHORAGE, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Top Chinese legislator Wu Bangguo on Saturday met with Alaska Governor Sean Parnell here before winding up his week-long official goodwill visit to the United States.     Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress, said he was glad to have Alaska as the final stop in his visit to the United States.     Apart from meeting with U.S. government and parliament officials, Wu said he also conducted comprehensive contacts with people from all walks of life in the U.S. during his stay.     The major topics included how to strengthen the Sino-U.S. cooperation, how to join hands to face challenges and how to realize common development of the two countries, Wu said. Wu noted that, Alaska, a state with rich natural resources and a closest U.S. state to China, enjoys incomparable advantages in cooperation with regions of China.     He wished that the Alaska state will further encourage its entrepreneurs to take the opportunities and expand new cooperation scopes in economy and trade with China, and boost exchanges and cooperation in the fields such as renewable energy, climate change, science and technology, and education.     During the meeting, Parnell said he was pleased that Chairman Wu and the delegation chose to stop over in Alaska during their visit to the United States.     China is an important market for Alaska, Parnell said. He and Wu had a good conversation on topics ranging across renewable energy, environmental conservation, natural resources development, Alaska seafood and tourism opportunities, he added.     At the invitation of U.S. Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, Wu started to visit the U.S. on Sept. 6. His trip to the United States was the first official visit to America by a top Chinese legislator in the past two decades.     Wu met with U.S. President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during the stay.     Before visiting the Unites States, Wu has visited Cuba and the Bahamas.

WASHINGTON, July 29 (Xinhua) -- The cooperation between the United States and China has never been so important as it is now, and the just-concluded U.S.-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue (S&ED) has provided a platform to reinforce common interests, a senior U.S. official has said in an exclusive interview with Xinhua.     "We have broadened the dialogue ... and the S&ED is a new approach towards the U.S.-and-China relations," David Loevinger, Treasury executive secretary and senior coordinator for China Affairs and the U.S.-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue, told Xinhua on Tuesday night.     "There was a common understanding that U.S.-China cooperation and engagement on economic issues have never been so important because of the challenges that we face in the global economy and global financial market right now," said Loevinger.     He said he was struck by the fact that both sides have so much in common in the discussion.     "The U.S. and China have a very similar outlook on the global economy and adopted very similar policy response," said Loevinger, once a Treasury Department's Financial Attache in China. "Both U.S. and China act very quickly and aggressively on global economic crisis."     "The monetary and fiscal stimulus in both countries was among the most aggressive and most far-reaching of any major economy," he also noted.     However, during the dialogue, China also expressed its concern over the security of its heavy investment. So far, China has invested more than 1.5 trillion dollars in the United States government-issued securities.     "We are deeply concerned about the security of our financial assets in the United States," Zhu Guangyao, China's assistant finance minister, told Xinhua.     Wang Qishan, Chinese vice premier and co-chair of the S&ED, also urged the United States to protect China's assets during the dialogue.     Loevinger indicated that the United States understands China's concern and explained to the Chinese side the U.S. monetary and fiscal policies during the two-day dialogue, which ended on Tuesday.     "(Federal Reserve) Chairman Bernanke talked about the Federal Reserve's approach to U.S. monetary policy," Loevinger said, referring to an op-ed Bernanke published last week in the Wall Street Journal, in which he talked about tightening monetary policy to prevent the emergence of an inflation once economic recovery is assured.     "Bernanke discussed many of these issues with China," he added. 

JINAN, East China, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao met International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge who was invited to attend the 11th Chinese National Games on Friday.     Hu Jintao extended welcome to Rogge and offered his congratulation on Rogge's re-election as IOC President. BEIJING, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- The China Economic and Social Council(CESC) wants to boost exchanges with Niger's Economic, Social and Cultural Council (CESOC), a senior Chinese official said Friday.     Wang Gang, chairman of the CESC and member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks when he met with the chairman of the CESOC Amadou Cheiffou in Beijing.     Both councils grouped experts in social and economic development, Wang said, and could learn from each other, as they deepened cooperation.  Wang Gang (R), member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee,vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference,and chairman of China Economic and Social Council, meets with Cheiffou Amadou, chairman of Niger's Economic, Social and Cultural Council, in Beijing, capital of China, on Aug. 28, 2009    Wang, also vice chairman of the National Committee of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, said the two nations' relations had developed well since they resumed diplomatic ties 13years ago.     He also expressed appreciation to Niger's adherence to the one-China policy and its support on issues related to Taiwan and Tibet.     Cheiffou said the CESOC would continue to work to further its traditional relationship with China.     Cheiffou began the eight-day visit on Aug. 23. BEIJING, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- A senior Chinese leader on Thursday urged the cultural industry to make greater efforts to improve China's capacity to communicate internationally and boost cultural exchanges between China and other countries.     Li Changchun, a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, said when visiting the 16th Beijing International Book Fair, the cultural industry was a new area of growth with tremendous potential.     Praising achievements made in the sector despite the global downturn, Li said it should strengthen international communication and promote China's brand names effectively and professionally.     The Beijing International Book Fair, initiated in 1986, is one of the world's four largest book fairs. This year, the five-day fair has attracted 1,800 publishing houses from nearly 60 countries and regions.
