BELGRADE, July 14 (Xinhua) -- Top Chinese legislator Wu Bangguo on Wednesday met with Serbian President Boris Tadic, vowing to add new impetus to the traditional friendship between China and Serbia."I am here to help realize the consensus between the two heads of states, pushing forward our strategic partnership and traditional friendship," said Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), who arrived here on Wednesday afternoon for a three-day visit.Wu is the first NPC Standing Committee chairman to visit Serbia over the past decade. China and Serbia have kept long-time friendship, and shared mutual support and respect. BEIJING, June 12 (Xinhua) -- China's top economic planner Saturday forecast a "mild" year-on-year rise in the consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation, in June, resulting in an average CPI increase of around 2.6 percent in the first half.The projection by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) came one day after China released its latest economic data.The latest estimate was revised up from a 2.5-percent CPI rise the NDRC projected on May 18.China's CPI hit a 19-month high with a 3.1 percent year-on-year increase in May, surpassing the central government's targeted 3 percent annual inflation limit.During the January-May period, China's CPI rose 2.5 percent year on year.According to the NDRC's projection posted on its website, China's June CPI will dip slightly month on month, but still post a "mild year-on-year increase" due to the low comparison basis in the same month last year.The NDRC said positive factors for basic price stability were on the increase, citing sharp falls in international commodities prices, the government's macro control policies and a crack-down on farm produce speculation as well as a possible good grain harvest this summer.Sheng Laiyun, spokesman for the National Bureau of Statistics, said Friday at a press conference that China had the basics for keeping prices under control this year."Although China faces quite a lot of pressure, the 3-percent target (for the whole year) is still possible with effort," he said.

CHANGSHA, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Death toll from a Friday explosion in Changsha City, capital of central China's Hunan Province, has risen to four with 19 people injured, local police said.The explosion went off on the third floor of a branch of Furong District's taxation office on Hengda Road near a downtown residential block at about 4:15 p.m., according to a statement from the city's police.Initial investigations show the explosion was a planned attack, the police said.The police sealed off the building and blocked nearby roads for investigation. All the workers in the building had already evacuated before the police came.Windows of the third floor were all shattered. Large blood stains could been seen on the stairs.The injured have been sent to the hospital.In a separate case in northeast China's Jilin Province, one people was killed and 20 were injured Friday in a series of explosions in a barber's shop in provincial capital Changchun.Four fire fighters were among the injured of the explosions which first blasted at 4:46 p.m, according to a statement from the municipal government.Witnesses say four explosions hit the shop.Fire fighters and workers from a local gas supply company are working at the site. Pieces of shattered windows can be seen forty meters away.The police are investigating the cause of the explosion.

URUMQI, Aug. 3 (Xinhua)-- Six people were dead and two were missing in a flood that hit northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on July 26, said local authorities Monday.Torrential rains pounded Akto County from July 26 to 27, triggered flooding, damaged houses and mines, according to the committee of the Communist Party of China of Kizilsu Kirgiz Autonomous Prefecture which administers the county.
