TIANJIN, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- China has become Volvo's third largest market, with more of its car models to go on sale in the world's largest auto market this year, Chief Executive Office (CEO) of Volvo Cars China said in Tianjin.Dr. Alexander Klose, CEO of Volvo Cars China, told Xinhua at the Ninth Tianjin International Automobile Trade Show, being held from Friday to Wednesday.Klose said Volvo Cars had entered a new era of fast development, adding that its sales in China roared in 2010.As of the end of September, Volvo's global sales volume was up 12.5 percent year on year, compared with 52 percent year-on-year rise in China, he said.Volvo also aggressively expanded its dealer network to 98 outlets in 81 Chinese cities this year.Two new Volvo sales centers opened in Beijing within merely one week in early October, about two months after east China's Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co. acquired the Swedish brand from the U.S. auto giant Ford for 1.5 billion U.S. dollars in early August.Dr. Klose said he was confident of seeing tremendous growth in China's auto market in the next five years."As the Chinese government has increased the tax rate for large displacement cars already, we now have a lot of cars below three liters, and I think we'll stick to that strategy, as you can see now the XC60 which was introduced today is just two liters," he said."As the technology advances, we'll probably even see 1.6 liter engines or 1.5 liter engines in the future," he added.Volvo Cars is not the only automaker hoping to take advantage of China's rapidly growing auto market.Bentley, the famous British luxury carmaker, will open a new sales center in China at Tianjin next Thursday, which is the 11th one in China, according to a press release by Shanghai-based Zenith Integrated Communications Corp. BEIJING, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- China's primary energy consumption will be kept to between 4 to 4.2 billion tonnes of standard coal by 2015, Jiang Bing, director of the development and planning department of the National Energy Administration (NEA), said on Saturday.Jiang made the remarks at a forum held by the energy research institute of the State Grid Corporation of China.Primary energy refers to existing natural energy which does not need processing, such as fossil fuels, nuclear fuels, biomass energy, hydropower, wind power, solar power and others.As China has adopted a low-carbon development strategy, the country plans to raise the non-fossil energies ratio in its total primary energy consumption to 15 percent by 2020, and carbon dioxide emissions per GDP would be reduced by 40 to 45 percent by 2020 from 2005 levels, Jiang said.Thus, primary energy consumption must be kept to below 4.2 billion tonnes in the next five-year plan (2011-2015) to achieve the two targets, Jiang said.China's per capita energy consumption now stands at 2.5 tonnes standard coal per capita and, if left uncontrolled, China might see its energy consumption top 7 billion tonnes of standard coal in 2030, Jiang said.However, he explained that despite the huge total amounts, the per capita energy consumption would only be equivalent to current levels in Japan.Thus, the nation's economic growth mode transformation is quite necessary and it would be a strategic choice for China to control its total energy consumption in the 15 years, Jiang said.China's primary energy consumption topped 3.07 billion tonnes of standard coal in 2009, up 30 percent from 2005, according to the NEA.

BERLIN, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- China and Germany pledged on Tuesday to enhance their efforts in coordinating macroeconomic policies and opposing trade and investment protectionism, according to a joint communique issued after a meeting between Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and his German counterpart Angela Merkel.The meeting, focusing on China's relations with Germany and Europe, was held at the Meseberg Palace, 70 km north of Germany's capital of Berlin, on the eve of the 13th China-European Union (EU) summit in Brussels.China and Germany are two of the world's largest exporters. China surpassed Germany last year to become the number one exporter.The communique said both sides agreed to attach importance to a series of dialogue mechanisms, including the strategic dialogue, the dialogue between nations ruled by law and human rights dialogue.China and Germany also agreed to expand political mutual trust and deepen strategic coordination between China and Europe. The two countries would like to promote Sino-European economic ties by enhancing negotiation and amplifying cooperation of mutual benefit.Germany would continue urging the EU to recognize China's full market economy status as soon as possible.
