It's an online publication that highlights African American-owned businesses throughout the San Diego region.“I just wanted you to be able to see all these beautiful faces of people doing everything from cooking - there's vegan chefs, there's jewelry makers, there's clothing designers,” Cox said.As part of the magazine launch, Cox created what's called “Catalyst Black.” It’s a three month, free entrepreneurship program to help African-American entrepreneurs grow their own companies.It started this month with three students - and will repeat each quarter.“I want them to be at their best when it comes to business,” Cox said. “A lot of people miss out on deals. They miss out on financial growth, because they're trying to figure it out."Participants learn to come up with business plans, revenue projections, and to be confident enough to stand behind the prices they charge for their services.Cox said he plans to reopen applications for the next session in September. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 1,115-acre vegetation fire at the Camp Pendleton Marine Base was extinguished today, base officials said.The Camp Pendleton Fire Department put out the fire at about 9:30 a.m. Sunday after battling the blaze overnight.The fire began Saturday and was first reported after 5 p.m. to have charred 220 acres, sending smoke over North County.The fire burned in the X-ray impact area, which is used for artillery and mortar training. 455
SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A convicted rapist wanted in New York for violating his parole by leaving the state pleaded not guilty Monday in a San Diego courtroom to burglary charges. Dale Dulac, 57, faces charges in San Diego of auto burglary and possession of stolen property, according to the District Attorney's Office. Dulac is being held on 0,000 bail for the San Diego charges, said George Modlin, deputy district attorney. But he also remains jailed as a fugitive from New York, where authorities say he violated the terms of his parole on Sept. 20 by leaving the state. San Diego police arrested Dulac Friday after officers recognized him walking in the 1500 block of Imperial Avenue. New York authorities said last week that Dulac had been spotted at a San Diego bus station and in San Marcos. According to media reports out of New York, Dulac was released on parole in 2015. "If we turn the machine off, we lose our business forever."Reach Yoga, which did not hold classes Tuesday, will rent outdoor space at the nearby Soledad Club, which it will have to share with a karate studio and church. "A yoga studio runs a lot differently than a bar or a restaurant or a church, so to have the same blanket over every single business. I don't feel that's right," Snedeker said.
