MIAMI (AP) — A 2-year-old girl is recovering after falling from a fourth-floor window of a Miami apartment. Miami Fire Rescue Capt. Ignatius Carroll told WPLG that a palm tree under the window helped slow the speed of the child's fall early Monday. She landed in some bushes. She was being cuddled by her uncle and was crying when rescue crews arrived at the scene. The girl was then taken to a hospital for treatment. Miami Police Cmdr. LOXAHATCHEE, Florida — Florida farmers fear they’ll continue to dig themselves further into financial holes because of cheap, subsidized produce coming into the country from Mexico. They don't believe the recently renegotiated trade agreement will change that.“It’s not the outcome that we’ve worked for," said Lisa Lochridge, of the Florida Fruit & Vegetable Association. "We still have a critical problem here in Florida. Family farms that have operated for generations are desperate to seek relief."Over the last couple of decades, Alderman Farms in Palm Beach County has seen big changes in the produce market because of the North American Free Trade Agreement, or NAFTA, which growers believe has allowed cheap, subsidized produce to flood the U.S."The trend is more economic growth here in Mexico and less here in Florida," Jimmy Alderman said.Even organic produce coming from Mexico is cheaper than what Alderman said he produces.“We’ve seen organic prices cheaper than our cost," Jimmy Alderman said. "We cannot maintain that average and be able to be successful.”The inability to compete with cheap produce from Mexico has caused some farms to close up, Lochridge said."We've seen companies in the last couple of seasons, operated for generations, that announced that they're shutting their doors," she said. "We expect more of that to continue if we don't get some trade reform that we need.""Every year two or three more family farms going out of business," Alderman said.Alderman said he was disappointed to hear the renegotiated agreement with Mexico and Canada doesn't include the trade reform for the produce industry he was looking forward to seeing."Unfortunately it feels like we’ve been left by the wayside one more time. Mario Batali is being sued by a woman who claims the celebrity chef kissed and groped her at a Boston restaurant and bar last year, according to court documents obtained by CNN.The suit comes several months after Batali first?faced allegations of sexual misconduct.Natali Tene states in a suit filed this week that Batali rubbed her breasts, kissed her repeatedly and groped her buttocks and groin area during an encounter at a Boston-area restaurant in April 2017.Tene did not know Batali personally but was familiar with his career, according to the suit.She says when Batali offered to take a selfie with her, she accepted. MANATEE COUNTY, Florida — Manatee County leaders are changing an EMS policy after a heart attack victim’s body was left sitting in a public park for three hours, while his widow was forced to sit with his body.Ty Ross was walking his dogs at the Palma Sola Marina when he dropped to the ground and from a heart attack. Deputies and EMS quickly responded, and pronounced him dead just before 8:45 a.m.Per county policy, EMS left after life-saving attempts were no longer needed — leaving the body behind.A Manatee County deputy kept the public away while they waited for the funeral home to arrive. The sheriff's office was not able to transport the body anywhere since it wasn't involved in a crime. When officials were able to get ahold of Julie Ross, who had her cell phone turned off, she rushed to the scene. When she arrived about 90 minutes later, she was forced to wait next to her dead husband's body for another hour and a half until the funeral home was able to come pick up her husband's body."If the ambulance is there, they shouldn't just go off and leave him!" You know? They should do something," Ross said. "I'm just thinking there must have been something else that could've been done besides just leaving him there. That seems so cold."Family members expressed concerns over EMS leaving the deceased at the scene with only a sheet to cover him. Wondering why they did not transport his body to a funeral home or morgue."Sitting over there with an umbrella over him, worried about red ants, it seemed forever," Ross said. Manatee County Sheriff’s spokesperson Dave Bristow says the Sheriff along with the EMS Chief are changing the county’s policy after this incident. From now on, paramedics will put a body in the back of the ambulance until the funeral home arrives.
