LONDON, July 5 (Xinhua) -- First Minister of Scotland, Alex Salmond, is currently leading Scotland's tourism and trade mission to China from 5 July, including a planned visit to Shanghai Expo 2010.During the five-day trip, the delegation will visit Shanghai, along with a planned visit to Shanghai Expo 2010, before traveling to Beijing. The group will combine trade workshops, sales calls, media meetings and a Scottish Golf Day.As an emerging global economic power and an essential partner for Scotland, China contribute to the key purpose of the Scottish Government, which is to increase sustainable economic growth. Shanghai Expo provides a focus and an ideal opportunity to build and maintain relationships and promote Scotland as a key economic partner.First Minister of Scotland, Alex Salmond, said: "It is vital that the Scottish Government, our agencies and Scotland's businesses do all they can to continue advancing the nation's relationship with China.""I will lead our delegations to a series of events at the Shanghai Expo, where we are supporting a significant Scottish presence to raise Scotland's profile and to encourage some of the anticipated 70 million visitors to the Expo to see Scotland as a place to live, to work, to study and to visit." Mr. Salmond added.China is one of Scotland's most important emerging markets with an increase in visits from 7,000 in 2005 to approximately 11,000 a year from 2007 to 2009, with these visits are worth average of 7 million pound to the Scottish economy each year.

TORONTO, Canada, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao visited an aircraft manufacturing facility on Saturday morning, in a gesture to show that China attaches importance to expanding mutually beneficial cooperation with Canada.Bombardier, a Canada-based global manufacturer of planes and trains, has cooperation projects with China in the areas of civil aviation and rail transportation.It has been working with the Shenyang Aircraft Corporation (SAC) of China to jointly develop and manufacture the innovative C series of airplanes.Hu toured the factory to have a close look at the components of the Q400 aircraft, which was partly manufactured in Shenyang. He expressed the hope that the cooperation between Chinese companies and Bombardier would have an even better future.Bombardier has developed a strong strategic partnership of mutual trust and mutual benefit with China, Beaudoin said.President Hu's visit is of great significance for advancing cooperation between Bombardier and its Chinese partners, he said.Bombardier is ready to work with its clients and cooperative partners in China to create a better future, he added.He also expressed the hope that Canada and China would develop an even stronger, constructive and sustainable relationship.Bombardier has set up three joint ventures and six wholly owned enterprises in China, all in the rail transportation industry.In recent years, Bombardier has identified China as an emerging market for its commercial aircraft and enlisted several local subcontractors for making aircraft components. The Canadian company now has offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong.Hu arrived in Toronto on Friday afternoon after spending three days in Ottawa, where he and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper witnessed the signing of a number of documents on cooperation between the two countries.Hu is to attend a summit of the Group of 20 countries in Toronto at the weekend.

  

BEIJING, Aug.1 (Xinhua) -- The People's Bank of China, China's central bank, has asked its branches to effectively implement a moderately loose monetary policy in the second half of the year.The bank urged maintaining the continuity and stability of monetary policies while making them more targeted and flexible, according to a statement on the bank's website after a meeting with branch presidents.It also urged adhering to the policy of striking a balance between keeping stable and relatively fast economic growth, adjusting the economic structure and managing inflation expectations.It asked its branches to stick to its annual lending target while maintaining market liquidity at a reasonable level.Housing loan policies should be strictly implemented to ensure the stable and healthy development of China's real estate market, the statement said.h China's monetary policy should be more proactive, targeted and effective, the statement added.The central bank has set a target to keep the country's new bank lending to below 7.5-trillion-yuan (1.1 trillion U.S. dollars) in 2010.In the first half of the year, China's new yuan-denominated lending hit 4.63 trillion yuan, down 2.74 trillion yuan from the same period last year.

  

BEIJING, July 29 (Xinhua) -- China's work safety authorities will investigate and crack down on manufacturers operating illegally in the coming three months, the Work Safety Committee Office under the State Council, China's Cabinet, said Wednesday.Accidents in manufacturing plants have dropped this year, but illegal operations still pose a grave threat to workplace safety, accounting for about 55 percent of the accidents above "relatively major" level, said a statement from the office.An accident above "relatively major" level referred to a case in which three or more deaths are involved, ten or more are seriously injured or an economic loss above 10 million yuan (1.48 million U.S. dollars) is caused.The crackdown beginning from Aug. 1 will focus sectors including mines, transportation, construction sites, manufacturers of dangerous chemicals, fireworks plants and smelting sector, said the statement.Illegal operations mainly refer to manufacturers that run without permits or run with insufficient or overdue permits and against safety production laws and codes.
