The Food and Drug Administration warned pregnant women on Thursday of using some pain and fever medications during the second half of pregnancies.According to the FDA, these nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can cause rare but serious kidney problems in the unborn baby, which can cause pregnancy-related complications. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs include ibuprofen, naproxen, diclofenac, and celecoxib. The FDA added that its warning does not apply to low-dose aspirin.“It is important that women understand the benefits and risks of the medications they may take over the course of their pregnancy,” said Patrizia Cavazzoni, M.D., acting director of FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research. “To this end, the agency is using its regulatory authority to inform women and their health care providers about the risks if NSAIDs are used after around 20 weeks of pregnancy and beyond.”The FDA says that warnings on prescription nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs already advise of complications past 30 weeks. The Girl Scouts of the USA revealed on Tuesday that a French-toast inspired cookie is coming in 2021.In a press release, the organization said the "Toast-Yay!" cookie, which is "dipped in delicious icing and full of flavor in every bite," will be available in select areas sometime next year.In March, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the organization switched to online sales.According to the release, the 2021 cookie season will again turn to sell cookies online and through "virtual cookie booths" on social media."Many girls will offer socially distant or contactless sales and delivery options," the Girl Scouts said in the release. "If local guidelines allow, in-person sales may also be available in certain areas, keeping girls’ safety top priority."The start of the yearly cookie season is typically in January. The Democratic National Committee is eyeing eight American cities for its 2020 Democratic National Convention, a party official tells CNN.The DNC sent requests for proposals to a host of cities and received responses from eight: Atlanta; Birmingham, Alabama; Denver; Houston; Miami Beach; Milwaukee; New York; and San Francisco."The DNC sent the original letters of interest to a broad list of cities that have traditionally been able to meet the preliminary requirements for serving as a host," the official said. "We expect the entire selection process to play out over the next year."The site of the convention often serves as either a symbolic representation of where the party hopes to perform well in the presidential run or an area that represents certain values the party is looking to project.The official also said the party will consider event facilities in each city, transportation options and hotel accommodations.The Republican National Committee plans to announce its 2020 convention site by the end of summer, committee leaders told members earlier this month.The Republicans have kept quiet about the cities they are considering. But Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale has signaled interest in his hometown of San Antonio, and The Charlotte Observer reported that Charlotte, North Carolina, had presented a bid to the RNC.The Democrats held their 2016 convention in Philadelphia. The calendar is about to flip from April to May, and normally storm chasers are flooding Tornado Alley to get a glimpse at the power of Mother Nature. But so far in 2018, there has not been much to chase. According to the National Weather Service, the state of Oklahoma, which is in the heart of Tornado Alley, has gone the entire year so far without a single confirmed tornado touchdown. Not since before 1950 has Oklahoma gone the first four months without a single tornado touchdown. By the end of April, the state would have averaged 17 tornado touchdowns. Last year, 13 tornadoes had touched down by the end of April. In 2016, there were 27 touchdowns in the month of April alone. In 2012, there were 54 confirmed touchdowns in April. The state of Kansas has also gone the entire year without a tornado. According to National Weather Service data, the state averages 12 tornadoes in the month of April alone. "On the whole, across the United States, we have seen around half the number of eyewitnessed tornado reports that we would normally expect by this time of year," Dr. Patrick Marsh, a meteorologist at the Storm Prediction Center, told CNN. Meteorologists are blaming, or crediting, a jet stream pattern that has sent big snow storms into the Upper Midwest for the decreased number of tornadoes. The pattern has prevented warm moist air from setting up in the Plains, which has cut off any fuel for potential tornadoes. According to the Storm Prediction Center, the upcoming weekend appears to void of any major severe weather outbreaks.
