WASHINGTON -- A veteran who lost his genitals due to a blast in Afghanistan has received the world’s most extensive penis transplant, according to the Associated Press.Surgeons at John Hopkins University said they wanted to address “an unspoken injury of war” by rebuilding the man’s entire pelvic region, transplanting a penis, scrotum and part of an abdominal wall from a deceased donor.In total, officials with the hospital said the surgery took 14 hours.Such transplants "can help those warriors with missing genitalia just as hand and arm transplant transformed the lives of amputees," Dr. W.P. (KGTV) - Charges were filed Tuesday against the San Diego County Sheriff’s deputy accused of groping a 14-year-old girl at a Vista restaurant.Prosecutors said Timothy Wilson, 32, was caught on surveillance camera at the Panda Express on Main Street March 21. Video shows Wilson entering the restaurant and grabbing the girl, according to investigators.A Sheriff’s Department employee recognized Wilson from the video and reported him.Wilson is charged with one felony count of lewd act with a 14-year-old, and one felony count of accessing a computer to take data, including the girl's home address. The girl's family lives near the Vista jail where Wilson works and now plans to move.The victim's mother, Janna Tanis, told 10News that her daughter is going to counseling, "She's still trying to process this all. It's very overwhelming; it's shocking and disappointing."A judge ordered Wilson to remain in custody in lieu of 0,000 bail. He is being held at the downtown jail, away from his co-workers at the Vista jail. VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Now that the election is over, the question remains of what to do with leftover campaign signs.Carolyn Beach and a group of her friends volunteer to help find missing pets and reunite them with their owners. She decided this was the perfect opportunity to upcycle the political yard signs.“They’re great to spray paint or just use the metal part to use a poster board and put your lost pet flyer there,” explained Beach.Her friend MaryBeth Ruger added that they can reuse them many times and they're versatile.“These signs are better than posting them on a lamp post or a pole because you can’t see that dog. Jessica Ward, a 6th and 8th-grade teacher at Minerva, was inspired to act after seeing a Facebook post:"Hello. We are teachers in El Paso. We would like to know if anyone is interested in sending us postcards to help our students know there is plenty of good in our world. As teachers, we may only be able to say so much. We think concrete messages of support would help us calm some fears. Any thoughts?"Ward and her more than 160 students got to work, creating letters filled with love, support, funny jokes, and positivity. "I just hope this small little gesture will bring happiness and positivity to their lives," said Ward. Ward also showed the students news clips of the tragedy, answering questions about what happened less than a month ago. "It's just something I like to be open about, so they understand that it's important to talk about. It's not something that should be silenced, it's something that everyone should be aware of, and part of the fight is talking about it," said Ward.
