BEIJING, July 6 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Civil Affairs on Tuesday jointly sent 377 million yuan (55.2 million U.S. dollars) to four southern provinces which had been battered by rainstorms and consequent floods.The funds will be mainly used for the evacuation and resettlement of affected local people and the rebuilding of damaged houses in the provinces of Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangxi and Hunan, said a statement released Tuesday by the Ministry of Civil Affairs.Figures from the ministry show that around 260 people have been killed and 211 left missing in 11 provinces since rainstorms hit south China on June 13.More than 3.8 million people were evacuated and relocated due to floodwater, which also destroyed 312,000 homes and resulted in direct economic losses reaching 64.57 billion yuan (about 9.49 billion U.S. dollars).As of Tuesday, the two ministries have allocated a total of 867 million yuan for eight southern provinces and autonomous regions for flood relief.

EMU2, made an emergency landing at sea about 500 meters northwest of Shun Tak Center at Sheung Wan, Hong Kong Island shortly after taking off."The pilot heard a loud bang at the back and decided to land on the waters," Acting Director General of the Civil Aviation Department (CAD) Leung Yu-keung said at a press briefing on Saturday that they will send some of the fittings broken down from the wreckage to Italy, where the copter was manufactured, for investigation. The crashed helicopter is salvaged on the sea area between the Hong Kong Island and the Kowloon Peninsular, south China, July 3, 2010. SHANGHAI, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- All entertainment activities at the Shanghai World Expo will be suspended Sunday in a show of respect for the victims of a massive mudslide in northwest China's Gansu Province.The Chinese national flags at the Expo Garden would fly at half-mast, and both the music broadcast at the opening and during the day would be stopped, the Shanghai Expo Bureau announced Saturday.Sun Weimin, the Expo Bureau's concierge director, said flags of the Bureau of International Expositions and the Shanghai World Expo would also fly at half-mast.Other Expo participants could decide for themselves whether to fly their flags at half-mast.The announcement was in line with that of the State Council, China's cabinet, which ordered suspension of all public entertainment and that Chinese flags fly at half-mast Sunday.The mudslide, which hit Zhouqu County, Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, on Aug. 8 has killed at least 1,239 people and an estimated 505 are still missing.According to the Expo Bureau, the Gansu Pavilion will hold a "solemn and simple" ceremony starting 10 a.m. Sunday. The big screen in the pavilion will broadcast pictures and videos of disaster relief in Zhouqu County.On Saturday night, a performance from Chongqing Municipality will include a tribute to victims of the Aug. 8 mudslide.Almost 100 performances and cultural activities scheduled for Sunday would be suspended.
